Last week, two people met at our Mahjong table as strangers. This week, they walked in together.
That is what one table, one game, and one hour a week can build.
Join us tomorrow at 12:30pm for Mahjong Without Borders at Legacy Park.
Who could you bring with you this week? Tag them below.

Freedom is a promise that each generation is invited to strengthen.

Today, many people gather to celebrate Independence Day in the U.S. It is also a moment to reflect on the ideals that continue to call us forward.

Freedom grows when every person is treated with dignity. Democracy grows when people listen across differences, participate with courage, and care for the well-being of one another. Compassion invites us to move beyond celebration into responsibility. It reminds us that the work of building welcoming communities belongs to all of us. This understanding of the expansiveness of freedom is why we have the Compassion Corridor: For every single person in our community to walk along it, free, equal and dignified.

Our democratic ideals have always asked each generation to do the work of creating a more just, more inclusive, and more compassionate society. That work continues today.

Join Leanne, Co-Executive Director of Compassionate Atlanta and Shannon Willow of Shannon Willow Arts as they stand in front of Lungs of Mother Earth in Scottdale, and take a couple of deep compassionate breaths for strength to continue the work: One for yourself and one for freedom.

Each of us must continue to renew our hope for a future where freedom, belonging, and opportunity continue to expand for every member of our human family.

Art Helps Us See Each Other. Art Connects People.

Did you know that public art helps build stronger communities?

Research shows that shared experiences with art increase empathy, spark conversation, and help people feel more connected to the places where they live. A mural, sculpture, or community art piece becomes more than something to look at. It becomes a reason to stop, talk, reflect, and belong.

That is the vision behind the Compassion Corridor.

Together, we are creating places where compassion can be seen, shared, and experienced.

Here we are making "People for Peace" at the Decatur Arts Walk with No More Liddering. Thank you friends.

Compassion is a verb. Use it. Be it. Do it.

When we meet on Common Ground, we realize we all want the same basic things.

A safe place to sleep.
Food on the table.
People who care about us.
A community where we belong.

Homelessness reminds us how fragile those basic needs can be.

On Common Ground is a new initiative from Compassionate Atlanta and Commissioner Michelle Long Spears that brings together neighbors, faith communities, service providers, and community leaders to learn from one another and explore how we can respond with compassion and shared responsibility.
Real change begins with conversation.

Because every person deserves dignity.
Every person deserves belonging.
Compassion is a verb. Use it. Be it. Do it.

Today, we have Venezuela and the earthquake victims in our hearts and minds. Every disaster teaches us something about our interconnectedness.
An earthquake.
A flood.
A wildfire.
A conflict.
Each one reminds us that geography may separate us, but our humanity does not.
Compassion invites us to move beyond sympathy into action. We give what we can. We amplify trusted organizations. We check on neighbors. We refuse to become numb to another person's suffering.
The world becomes more compassionate one response at a time.
