Our friends at Gladstone Institutes asked us to produce two videos about their partnership with the Exploratorium, a San Francisco science landmark. As a way to bring living biology to the masses, these two organizations partnered to create “Give Heart Cells a Beat,” an exhibit that allows visitors to effect cardiac stem cells in real-time and see them on a big screen. See how it works here!

I loved this book! It's a memoir of friendship, love, suffering and creativity in and around the hardscrabble streets of NYC in the 1970s and '80s. It's fun, endearing and sometimes just weird to read about how close Patti Smith and Robert Maplethorpe were through many years of hights and lows. They read as very different people to me and I totally identified with Patti. She's a creative with extreme patience who worked hard and big things eventually happened. Maplethorpe worked hard and big things happened for him too, but he comes across as impatient and often working against his own best interests.

The real stories shared seem like fiction because of the incredible cast of characters that waltz in and out of the picture throughout the years covered. From hanging out with William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg during their time living in the Chelsea Hotel to holding court with Andy Warhol at Max's Kansas City, the adventures they had in real life are adventures I've dreamt about. While I've been a fan of Patti's music for years, this was the first of her books I've read and because of it, I look forward to more.

It’s great fun to see how things are made. For instance, the largest roll of toilet paper I’ve ever seen was at a Georgia Pacific plant near Savannah, GA. Imagine a roll of TP that is 12-15 feet tall and 10-12 feet wide – you don’t want to get in the way of that thing!

At Masterack, cutting, bending, welding, and painting were a few of the actions we captured on camera. All of this in service of creating boxes, shelves, baskets and more that help workers keep tools and materials organized when they come to your home or office.

We recently had the pleasure of conducting a video interview and shooting photos of Ángel Cabrera - President at Georgia Institute of Technology while producing a series of videos for Georgia Tech Strategic Consulting, an on-campus office poised to help big ideas come to life.

When shooting photos, we capture great shots to begin with, but there is always room to make them a little better. Adobe Lightroom is vital to our process for bringing out the color, depth and detail so an image can really shine.

I work with a team of collaborative creatives and visual thinkers who create eye-catching photography and tell compelling stories with video for clients across the continent.

A big part of my job is to ask questions and one of my favorites is a simple ‘why’? Why do you want to make a video? Why do you need photos? I’m naturally curious and want to learn more about my clients and what they are trying to achieve so we can create a successful project plan.

I especially love conducting interviews. It's great fun to meet and talk with people from different walks of life and different career paths. I'm convinced that by now I've met a future president or two and maybe the person who will cure cancer.

While leading the charge on video and photo projects in Northern California where I live, I also am involved with projects based out of the Mixed Bag Media office in Atlanta, GA.

I was excited to read an interview with Oakland, CA photographer Andria Lo and learn more about her book "Chinatown Pretty." Her stories of meeting senior citizens who are full of personality made me think of all the wonderful people I met during projects Mixed Bag Media produced with the Foundation of Wesley Woods (https://lnkd.in/gVp8dmCA). Whether living in Wesley Woods Towers, a building with classic midcentury design near Emory University and the CDC, or one of their other locations around the Atlanta metro area, we enjoyed time interviewing and shooting footage of active seniors living the good life.

Images of individuals performing specific tasks and/or a library of the workforce pushing toward a larger goal all can provide the promotional push needed to look great online, in print and elsewhere. Corporate image cannot be downplayed and we will make you look good.

My video and photo production company, Mixed Bag Media, specializes in documentary-style storytelling. Whether on location, or online, we craft meaningful visual stories that resonate with viewers.

Jim Threlkeld, my second in command is in charge of the Atlanta, GA office and along with possessing a variety of skills and talents, he wears many hats very well.

He made the move from animation to live action when he joined me in 2013. Jim has always loved old school animation (Bugs Bunny, The Flintstones, Rocky & Bullwinkle to name a few), and not long after graduate school, began his career in television production by working at well-known Atlanta animation studio Primal Screen, producing on-air promos for Cartoon Network.

Offer to buy him a cup of coffee and he'll most likely meet with you.

After hearing the sad news about the Georgia Guidestones, Jim Threlkeld and I both went back to watch this video we made together in 2017 celebrating the full solar eclipse as it passed over the stones.

Mixed Bag Media was on hand at the Georgia Guidestones to witness the Great American Eclipse of 2017. The Guidestones were on the edge of the zone of totality and…

Technological breakthroughs often start with one person sitting at a workbench. These shots are actually a few years old, but this guy was working on a prototype EV car charging system. What is becoming more normal everyday was not even close to normal when this was happening just a short time ago.

Still video frames from a project I shot for School of Industrial Systems and Engineering. These are the people who make sense of among many other things. Great times learning from real number crunchers.
