Carapace

Carapace You can either have a good experience or you can have a good story. "Long Story Short" Margot Leitman Just relax and listen. It's free! Your story.

Carapace offers true personal stories told live by ordinary people, without notes, to a new theme every month. Names are drawn from a hat; no need to tell if you don't want to. In no other venue does the audience suddenly become the performer and then become the audience again, except karaoke -- but in karaoke, you're always singing someone else's song. At Carapace, it's your song. Everyone has story. Come out of your shell.

Carapeep sent us this photo from his travels in France. It translates to "truffle or shell?"

So what are you going to do Tuesday night (May 12)? Are you going to come out of your truffle? Or shell?

One way or another, we hope YOU can put aside your jealousy of Samuel's travels in France so we can see you at for our show on the theme of "Hey, Jealousy" at 7p (or a smidge sooner because we know how those seats have been filling up fast!).

Carapace for May: Hey, Jealousy https://mailchi.mp/b780104947df/hey-jealousy

Jealousy. That green-eyed monster. It's one of the oldest emotions. What led Cain to slay Abel (remember when people legit slew each other?).

We just know you're gonna have some great stories on this topic! Did you covet your neighbor's wife? Sulk in the wings after losing the part in the school play? Watch your frienemy get the job or promotion you felt you deserved?

Alternatively, perhaps you found yourself the subject of someone else’s ongoing angst, earned or not.

Whatever your story, whether Biblical or modern, we’ll be waiting as we always are on the second Tuesdays of the month, at Manuel’s Tavern. While the show begins at 7p, we encourage folx to get there early and get their orders in with the finest wait staff in town.

ALSO:
One of our favorite times of year is the Atlanta Fringe Festival, which showcases some of the best, weirdest theater, dance, puppetry, even audio—from Atlanta & beyond! This year, as always, our live literary Atlanta scene has shown up in style. Daniel Herd and Billie Sainwood can be found at Metropolitan Studios. Audience favorite, Augustus Graves, will be on at 7 Stages. And lots o’ Carapace beloveds—Chetter Galloway, Will Young, Michael Keeton, Sarah Beth Nelson, and Shannon Turner—are joining forces to bring a storytelling show about storytelling shows (so meta!) called Slammed! at The Dynamic El Dorado!

We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to Carapace donors through our Buy Me a Coffee page, Carapace now has a real, grown-up URL: CarapaceATL.com.

We used to have a generic URL with a long string of extra characters. We're also paying for some better services and, due to crossing over a threshold in our list number, we had to start paying for our list.

All that to say, please bookmark this new URL in your browser!

And thanks again to those of you who have been able to kick us some extra coins! More importantly, thanks to all of you for sitting with open hearts in the witnessing and sharing of our true, authentic stories for all these years.

Carapace for April: Sinners / 99 Problems is tomorrow night! Plus, a few more. things... - https://mailchi.mp/c85f5d971f4a/sinners-8338625

In honor of the Oscars, we're going with Sinners as this month's theme. So. Many. Juicy. Thoughts. A million ways to take it.

Did you indulge in one of the seven deadlies? Did you get judged by a supposedly holier-than-thou?

Perhaps you thought you should be ashamed of something all your life but came out the other side, vindicated. Take us to the moment when you discovered you didn't get hairy palms, when you let your anger get the best of you, when you found Father McAllister drunk on the communion wine, when you failed the Blue Book exam on Dante's Inferno, or when your lust for life turned into a death wish.

Our original prompt for this month's theme was 99 Problems. Folx seemed to be a bit befuddled by it, so we added in Sinners as maybe a bit broader and easier to run with. Here's more on the theme of 99 Problems...

Ever find yourself up to your eyeballs? In hot water? Running around like a chicken with your head cut off? We wanna hear about the time it seemed you just couldn't catch a break, when you wished Calgon would just take you away. And maybe in the midst of it all, you found a whole new perspective...

Whatever your story, we’ll be piously waiting, as always, on the second Tuesdays of the month at Manuel’s Tavern. While the show begins at 7p, we encourage folx to get there early and get their orders in with the finest wait staff in town.

As a reminder, we welcome story listeners and storytellers alike—just as long as you’re a connoisseur of stories (and of Manuel’s food).

SURVEY:
We experimented last month with providing live streaming Carapace because some of our regulars were under the weather. What are your thoughts? Is it something we should consider continuing? Take our survey here: https://us9.list-manage.com/survey?u=44e3263d6dd5106d0458b31a9&id=a5b9315af0

THE SONGS THAT SHAPED US:
On Tuesday, April 28, ’s Attic, many of your favorite Carapace storytellers, Chetter Galloway, Samuel Frankel, and Shannon Turner, will be featured at Atlanta Storytellers, “The Songs That Shaped Us.” Each storyteller ties their story to a song, and then a live band plays that song in between the stories. A benefit for Atlanta, we hear tickets are nearly sold out, so make sure to get yours soon.

Cats vs. dogs. Our team vs. yours. Frenemies. The neighbor who won’t stop playing loud music or who polices the HOA chat. There’s nothing like a good story about a relationship that went south. Fast.

Tell us about a time when you or your secret, sworn enemy took the dispute to the next level. Did Crazy Cousin Darrell wage war with some squirrels?

Perhaps more recently, you simply became obsessed with a viral sensation, deliciously naughty hockey show, losing sleep but gaining friends, because the memes were just too good?
