Open spaces are where community happens. They’re also where risk is harder to see, and many don't want to acknowledge. It can be difficult to imagine how an event rooted in celebration can become a tragedy.

After the Bondi Beach attack, we wrote a reflection on what “soft-target security” really means—and why protecting public gatherings can’t come at the expense of dignity, culture, or the guest experience.

We’ve seen this challenge echo across holiday events too: seasonal celebrations are open by design, and that openness demands intentional, hospitality-driven protection.
