Spotted Skunks are one of my favorite solitary animals!
When treatened, they will perform a handstand as a warning before spraying predators right in their face!

This act makes them appear larger, as well as, flashing their white and black coat to warn of their dangerous rump!!

If you come across a skunk doing a hand stand, just know that thing is locked and loaded!!

It is now Bat Season at Sanders Wildlife! From April 1st, to July 31st, Brown bats raise their young in maternity colonies.

During this time we are legally not allowed to evict any maternity colonies out of an attic spaces. This is to ensure each colony is given their best chance to thrive! After this time, we must install devices that will let the bats leave an attic without being able to return. This means in most cases we dont even have to touch a bat! In this instance, this little brown bat found its way inside the garage and needed a hand! These bats will relocate to another attic, tree cavity, or bat roost close by with their family!

🐢 DEAR GEORGIA DRIVERS, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT TURTLES.

If you see a turtle in the road, please understand something:

He has absolutely no idea what he's doing. 🤷‍♀️

He has a destination.
He has a plan.
He has no map.

And he has chosen the middle of a busy road as the best route to get there…probably during rush hour.

So if you see a turtle trying to cross:

* Slow down and give him space.
* If it's safe to do so, you can help him cross in the direction he was already heading. Don't turn him around just because you think the other side looks safer. He knows where he's going…probably.
* Never take a turtle home. A turtle in the road doesn't need a new address. He needs to get where he was already going.
* And please don't assume he needs to be near water. Seeing a turtle on the road doesn't mean he's headed to the nearest pond. Don't pick him up and relocate him to what you think is a better habitat. He’ll find his favorite watering hole when he's ready.

That turtle may move at approximately 0.0007 miles per hour, but he's still got somewhere to be.

If you see the car in front of you stop and some crazy person jump out, grab a turtle, run it to the side of the road, sprint back to the car and take off like it's a pit stop… Well, it was probably me. 😂

And if you're wondering where the turtle is going…
It's none of your business. And stalking is illegal. 😉

Coydog, or Coyote?

Carmine is a black melanistic coyote found playing with peoples dogs in Atlanta. We were granted permission by the DNR to capture Carmine and take him to Yellow River Wildlife Sanct!

This was a special case, which may not happen again. Per the state law, any coyote trapped must be euthanized and not relocated. Because of Carmines behavior, he was highly suspected of being hand raised and released back into the wild.

Thankfully we were able to take him to meet Wilee at Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary, where he still is today!

Carmine was found to be 100 percent coyote. Melanistic coats are a gene mutation and can be found in multiple animals, for coyotes they will typically have an all black coat, with a white chest!

Baby squirrels are popping up everywhere!🐿

Grey Squirrels typically give birth in early spring and late summer. Even in the extreme heat, an attic space makes a perfect place to raise young. It can provide shelter, as well as a warm place for their young grow. This little one was found nesting in insulation ontop of the pull down stairs to the attic!

When sealing entry points during this time of year, we always check for the possibility of baby squirrels!

This was a wild case, that had us working late hours! Stanley the white tailed deer, was causing some ruckus in a small community of Villarica, GA. Stanley was consuming flowerbeds, and hanging out with the locals in their backyards. The community reached out to Georgia Wildlife Network to find some help. We were brought into the case to help capture Stanley, and find him a new home!

After capture we took him to Smithwick Station to get him checked out and cleared for transport! Stanley can now be found with his new family at Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary ! We are thankful for a happy ending on this one!
