You’re choosing between five speakers, and every proposal says the same thing:

Inspiring. Engaging. Transformational.

But inspiration alone does not justify a speaker investment.

Impact gets budget.

Before you book your next keynote, ask these three questions:

1. What do you want to look different 30 days after the event?

Be specific. Are you looking for stronger communication, better leadership habits, renewed engagement, or greater resilience?

2. Where will your people be under pressure next quarter?

The right keynote should connect to the real challenges your people are facing, not just the theme of the event.

3. How will you know it worked?

Define the evidence before the event. What will participants do, discuss, or apply differently afterward?

A keynote is not just a nice day out.

It should be a working session with an outcome: one that gives your people language, tools, and momentum they can carry into the next quarter.

The biggest mistake speakers make when setting their fee?

They guess.

They look at what everyone else is charging and try to do the same.

But your speaking fee should come from a framework, not a guess.

Your real number should consider:

• Your experience
• Your authority on the topic
• Your preparation level
• The audience size
• Travel and logistics

I learned this lesson after coming off a stage where I spoke for free. The crowd was electric. People were lined up to talk with me.

My husband and I looked at each other and agreed: from that point forward, I would be paid to speak.

That decision was not about ego. It was about recognizing the value of the transformation I create in the room.

So when a planner pushes back on your fee, remember this:

“My fee is based on the value and scope of this engagement, not on what someone else charges.”

No more guessing.
No more undercharging.
No more letting someone else’s number define your value.
