These are the canned response email letters small business grants send out when you've been REJECTED 😭

When I had no idea what I was doing when it came to filling out small business grant applications (and was unsure if I was "doing it rightt" and wondering to myself "what am I doing wrong?")...I received a total of 27 of these types of emails 🥺.

My recent pivot into the grants space for Black women small business owners came with things like copyright infringement from scammers stealing my videos, name, pictures, and people's money by lying to them by pretending to be me on every social media platform.

It came with people passing off my life learned lessons as their own.

It came with people challenging my knowledge of how to navigate this new space.

It came with "opportunities" being snatched away and promises for funding being broken.

It came with people purchasing my products, downloading them, forwarding them on to others, then requesting a refund from me.

So many (legal) lessons learned about how to stand up for what I believe in (me, God, my content, my community and the work I'm blessed to do for the largest group of vastly underserved and underfunded entrepreneurs...Black women small business owners)!

I now have newfound knowledge and strength about what it takes to GROW to the next level.

My main takeaway is my drive to never let how others behave change who I know myself to be as a Black woman in grants, because...

When I do the MATH I see our first five-figure sales month and book sales soar to 250 copies sold, and our TikTok following grow from 400 to close to 60,000 in just under 6 months!

Then, I get to hear the stories from 1 of our 75 mentees in my mentorship program and online community, like Deahnna Joi, who in the last 90 days, just WON a $50,000 grant from her local credit union for her client. Then, she won a $5,000 grant opportunity for her own business from the same program where she now serves as a Mentor -- giving back through knowledge she gained from reading my book on how to get grants as a Black woman-owned small business in the U.S.! 🤑

When we WIN, it's WORTH IT! 💕

STORYTIME!: 🏀 The 'Pull Up & Pitch' event with Black Girl Ventures, The Atlanta Hawks Foundation and The NBA Foundation was the stage where she showcased her business brilliance!

I'm SO PROUD to have been part of this journey! 😁

🎤 Witnessing per practice her FIRST live pitch to deliver in front of 100+ people was...a tear jerker! 🥲

⌚We spent countless HOURS preparing...and she nailed it!

🏆She stepped into the 16,000-seat arena, faced the judges, and emerged victorious! (securing 1 of only 20 cash prizes)!

👏 This is a story of CELEBRATION, hard work and determination!

🎉 The journey from preparation for business grant applications to business pitch competition(s) as a Business Grant Coach is SO inspiring for me, and it is empowering to see Black women worldwide WINNING funding for their Black woman-owned small businesses!

Ya'll, I recently had a coaching conversation…I was the client.

The Coach was an older white male millionaire in his 60’s from the U.K.

Things were going well with the session, until he asked my most dreaded / hated question of all…

THE QUESTION:

“Why do you choose to only work with Black Women?”

😐 😐 😐

I calmly answered his question.

Then, I mentioned to him how that question offended me — for what I assumed were obvious reasons

(like…because I’m a Black woman!).

He agreed not to ask me that question ever again.

The more that question comes up in coaching conversations I’m a part of, I’ve been blessed to address the other “reasons” that motivate me, my movement, and my marketplace ministry.

🤔 🤔 🤔

HERE ARE (5) REASONS I WORK WITH BLACK WOMEN ONLY…

1. Because I can.
2. Because I choose to.
3. Because I don’t need a reason to.
4. Because I don’t have to explain myself (to them)…or you {white man/woman)…or argue with them about ‘my pedigree’, or what “qualifies” me to do this work, or if I have a white man’s “permission” or stamp of approval ‘to do this type of work’. I can just be myself and speak freely (and let the Lord use me)
5. Because, WHY ARE YOU NOT focused in on Black women only (white man/woman)?

We’ve BEEN waiting...
