Here's something I wish every nonprofit leader and small business owner knew...Grant writing doesn't start when the application opens. It starts months before the deadline. The organizations that consistently receive funding aren't always the biggest or the most experienced—they're the ones who prepare before the opportunity arrives. Here are 3 grant tips that can make your next proposal stronger:💡 Tip #1: Start with the need, not your organization.Funders invest in the problem you're solving before they invest in your solution.📊 Tip #2: Use data to support your story.Passion opens the door, but measurable outcomes build credibility. Let your numbers validate your impact.📅 Tip #3: Don't wait until a grant is announced. The strongest proposals are built long before the deadline because successful organizations already have their program design, outcomes, partnerships, and evaluation plans in place. These are just a few of the strategies I teach inside SERVE University. If you're ready to become more competitive for grant funding, Fall 2026 registration opens July 15!✨ Join the SERVE University email list to receive:✔️ Weekly Grant-Winning Wednesday tips✔️ Current grant opportunities for nonprofits & small businesses✔️ Early access to Fall registration✔️ Grantsmanship resources delivered straight to your inbox🔗 www.SERVEUniversity.org👇 Now I'd love to hear from you...Which of these three tips do you think organizations overlook the most—and which one are you committing to improve before your next grant application?

People often ask me why I became Your Favorite Grant Writer®.

The answer has never been grants.

It's always been mission.

A few years ago, while completing my doctoral dissertation, I spent countless hours researching what makes community-based nonprofits resilient during the most difficult times. After studying nonprofit stakeholders and organizational resilience, one finding stood above everything else:

An inspired mission is the central resilience quality that keeps organizations moving forward—even when funding is uncertain, resources are stretched, and the world feels unpredictable.

That finding changed how I see my work.

I don't teach nonprofits and small businesses to write grants because I love proposals (although I do!). I teach grant writing because every funded proposal represents a mission that gets to keep serving.

It's the child who receives an education.
It's the entrepreneur who creates jobs.
It's the family who finds hope.
It's the neighborhood that becomes stronger.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of traveling across the country—and even internationally—sharing the gift of grantsmanship with nonprofit leaders, educators, faith-based organizations, and small business owners. Every workshop reminds me that people aren't chasing funding because they love paperwork.

They're chasing funding because they believe their mission deserves to exist.

That's why I proudly call myself Your Favorite Grant Writer® because grants aren't the destination.

Your mission is.

So this Mission Monday, I'll leave you with one question:

What does your mission mean to you and what does it mean to the community you're called to serve?

Here's a question...

What if the only thing standing between your organization and its next grant award is your grantsmanship strategy?

Today is International Grant Professionals Day ( ), an annual celebration recognizing and appreciating all grant professionals.

We want to take today (and every day) to celebrate the administrators, consultants, managers, grant-makers, and grant proposal developers for their beneficial contributions to people, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. IGPD is about honoring grant seekers, grant makers, and grant project managers.

Every day, grant professionals work diligently, often behind the scenes, to seek grant opportunities, administer projects, and implement essential programs that benefit many aspects of society, such as children, youth, the elderly, the disadvantaged, the environment, the arts, education, libraries, and hospitals.

These talented professionals are dedicated to providing the highest standard of ethics, quality program development, thoughtful project implementation, and wise financial stewardship.

Often, those standards extend beyond mere financial support to include capacity support, long-term solutions to challenges, fundraising assistance, expert project management, sustainable programming, and so much more.

increases international awareness of the work that grant professionals perform.
I am honored to be a part of a dynamic group of intelligent, skillful, and grant professionals.

To celebrate this grant holiday, the SERVE-U Merch Store is open, and all swag is 25% off!
