COLLABORATOR | My identity as a collaborator is deeply connected to my idea of “living in the fullness.” If "living in the fullness" means believing that I am worthy to receive all that the Spirit has for me, and aligning my actions accordingly, then collaboration is key part of that experience. By creating with others, I open myself up to the gift of new experiences, new information, and producing new knowledge with my community.

My most rewarding collaboration has been working with my sister friend, Keyierra Collins. She is a brilliant and talented, Black woman installation artist and choreographer with roots in the South and Midwest. Together, she and I have created environments for Black women’s stories and joy. Our collaboration has stretched us personally and professionally because the work is deeply informed by our friendship. This, in turn, informs my approach to artistic practice and research—for living (and not just academic knowledge) can inform the art. I am grateful for the ways she and I have grown together; for the ways we’ve found a home within each other.

ARTIST | I’ve been an artist since I was a little girl. My practice began as a liturgical dancer in a Southern, Pentecostal church in GA. Since then my practice has evolved into creating performance installations—multidisciplinary, collaborative experiences that involve dance, sound, video, and objects to explore Black feminism in practice. I enjoy creating spaces where Black women’s stories come alive contributing to our visions of collective liberation. My artistic practice often serves as my playground where I can experiment with ideas, theories, and research in community. My practice and my body, are the foundations for all of my creative endeavors. It’s the place I return to for information, inspiration, and direction.

Projects shown: "Beloved" (2017) in collaboration with Alivia Blade, "When Iva Met Eunice" (2018) with Amber Johnson, choreographed by Aaliyah Christina, "Tati's Buttah Joint" and "The Shwang Out" by, Take Some Leave Some .leavesome

She’s a PhD student🧡

Y’all...it’s been a long time coming. I’m so excited I could cry. My mentor told me this summer that the Spirit was clearing the path for me and my dreams, and the Spirit did just that. I’m walking into this next phase with my cloud of witnesses, especially Auntie Shell, Auntie Lenette, and Dr. Stella Biswah who helped bring me into this world, saw me, and loved me🧡🧡🧡🧡
