COLLABORATOR | My identity as a collaborator is deeply connected to my idea of “living in the fullness.” If "living in the fullness" means believing that I am worthy to receive all that the Spirit has for me, and aligning my actions accordingly, then collaboration is key part of that experience. By creating with others, I open myself up to the gift of new experiences, new information, and producing new knowledge with my community.
My most rewarding collaboration has been working with my sister friend, Keyierra Collins. She is a brilliant and talented, Black woman installation artist and choreographer with roots in the South and Midwest. Together, she and I have created environments for Black women’s stories and joy. Our collaboration has stretched us personally and professionally because the work is deeply informed by our friendship. This, in turn, informs my approach to artistic practice and research—for living (and not just academic knowledge) can inform the art. I am grateful for the ways she and I have grown together; for the ways we’ve found a home within each other.
