Lot 470 in our Autumn Estates & Collections auction is a baseball signed by members of the legendary 1932 World Series Champion New York Yankees.

Amongst the 22 signatures are some of the most recognizable names in baseball history, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Bill Dickey, Earle Combs, Red Ruffing, Lefty Gomez, Frankie Crosetti, and George Pipgras.

The signatures have been authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA) and the ball is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity.

Adding to its story, the baseball comes from the multi-generational Gaston Collection, which was housed across two notable Georgia properties: Twin Oaks, a National Register Greek Revival estate in Greenville, and Atlanta’s iconic Rhodes Hall, known as the “castle on Peachtree Street.”

Created in celebration of the NBA’s 50th anniversary, this 50 Greatest Players lithograph brings together generations of the players who helped define the game, from Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal to Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and more.

Each of the 49 living players selected for the NBA’s historic list signed beneath his portrait. Pete Maravich, who passed away in 1988, is the only honoree whose signature does not appear. NBA Commissioner David Stern also signed the work. The project was produced in a limited edition and represents a remarkable moment when nearly an entire pantheon of basketball legends came together to commemorate the league’s first 50 years.
