Chase Phishing Scam

An email is being sent around claiming that if you are a Chase customer and take a survey, you can get a $50 credit to your account. If you click on the links in the email, you will be directed to a website that looks like an authentic Chase site, but is really a scammers site somewhere in China. Here’s the catch – to get your $50 credit, they need your ATM PIN Number, zip code, mother’s maiden name, and email.
What You Can Do
Watch out for this subject line (and others like it) in emails that look to come from Chase:

The body of the email has information like this in it:

The Chase Online department kindly asks you to take part in our quick and easy 5 question survey. In return we will credit $50.00 to your account – Just for your time!

If you see an email like this, delete it immediately. Never click on links from spam emails. Absolutely never enter your private information into a website from an email with a link — whether it’s to check your account info, resolve a fraudulent order, respond to a customer service survey, etc.

Another Phish Tale: Facebook and Microsoft Password Reset

There has been an increase in the number of phishing emails purporting to be from major companies stating that the user has requested a password reset. Some emails look pretty authentic, while others look as if they were put together by lazy hackers.

To keep the theme of what to do with emails going, here are the general guidelines again:

If you did not reset a password, and you get an email stating you did, DON’T click the links in the email. Visit the actual website and try to login. Chances are, your password still works just fine.
DON’T open attachments from emails that you were not expecting to get.
If you get an email that looks legitimate, the first thing to do is hover your mouse over the links and wait for the little pop-up to come up and tell you where the link is really taking you.
DON’T click on links in emails you were not expecting to get.
