Time flies! This past weekend, Orange Sparkle Ball, Inc., concluded the first pilot of our Autonomous Robotic Pickup Platform in the city of Detroit's Transportation Innovation Zone. This pilot, the first in a series of 4 pilots, was focused on the pickup of food waste for composting in Detroit’s North Corktown neighborhood.

We are so grateful for all those who made this pilot possible, including our partners Ottonomy IO and Scrap Soils and the support we received from Brother Nature Farms and the North Corktown Neighborhood Association.

In June, Orange Sparkle Ball, Inc. launched a pilot exploring the robotic pickup of food waste in partnership with Ottonomy IO and Scrap Soils with support from Brother Nature Produce and the North Corktown Neighborhood Association (NCNA).

On Monday, we hosted a demo for our friends from City of Detroit: Office of Mobility Innovation, NextEnergy, and the State of Michigan! At this demo, we walked through the customer journey, Ottonomy demonstrated the capabilities of the robot, and Scrap Soils educated the group on the process involved with composting the food waste.

We're so excited to continue exploring the benefits and logistics of robotic pickup. Keep an eye out for Pilot 1 Results and updates on our upcoming Autonomous Robotic Pickup Pilots in Detroit!

Orange Sparkle Ball is currently engaged with Scrap Soils and Brother Nature Farms for our first pilot in the Transportation Innovation Zone in the city of Detroit focused on the pickup of food waste. Our goals for this platform will be to understand the long-term logistics and market for the autonomous pickup of materials as well as the overall benefit this platform could provide to the city of Detroit.

Recently, a few members of the OSB team, Hannah Ranieri, Diego Perez, and Ashley Touchton, took a visit to Brother Nature Farm alongside Scrap Soils' Ricky Blanding to see the farm land where composting will take place during this pilot.

We are grateful for the opportunity to work squarely in our sweet spot as an innovation agency, designing and facilitating iterative pilots and accelerating change.

Orange Sparkle Ball is creating a civic tech platform to provide more efficient city infrastructure services in Detroit. To do this, we’re conducting a series of pilots with different technology and community partners. This is not about any one technology partner or startup but about understanding how the technology itself can solve civic infrastructure problems. As an innovation and impact accelerator focused on moving public and private organizations’ initiatives forward, Orange Sparkle Ball is uniquely positioned to build this platform.

As our Autonomous Robotic Pickup Platform progresses, we wanted to address some frequently asked questions. Read more here:

In partnership with Ottonomy IO, a leading ground robotics company, and Scrap Soils, a local Detroit composting nonprofit, we're working to transform waste management practices in Detroit. Supported by the eco-conscious efforts of Brother Nature Farms, this pilot represents a significant step towards a greener, more efficient future.

Our goals for this platform will be to understand the long-term logistics and market for the autonomous pickup of materials as well as the overall benefit this platform could provide to the city of Detroit.

We are grateful for the opportunity to design and facilitate iterative pilots in our sweet spots of sustainability and mobility. Hear more from OSB's Hannah Ranieri and Ricky Blanding of Scrap Soils in this video.

Community engagement is a core component of our pilot strategy at Orange Sparkle Ball. This past weekend, we rolled up our sleeves and joined the North Corktown Neighborhood Association (NCNA) park cleanup event! 🌿♻️

North Corktown will be the first neighborhood to engage in our Autonomous Robotic Pickup Platform, where we will be working with Ottonomy IO to pick up food waste and Scrap Soils and Brother Nature Farms to turn the food waste into compost.

At the event, Ricky Blanding of Scrap Soils hosted a demonstration detailing the composting process that will be utilized for this pilot.

Exciting times lie ahead as we raise awareness and recruit participants within North Corktown for our pilot. We continue to be encouraged by the enthusiasm and willingness to participate from the folks in the neighborhood.

And we’re off! Today, we have launched the first of our 4 pilots exploring the use of autonomous ground robots for pickup in Detroit.

This first pilot is exploring robotic food waste pickup for composting, and we’re thrilled to share that we’ve successfully completed our very first pickup! 🤖 Together with our partners Scrap Soils, Ottonomy IO, North Corktown Neighborhood Association (NCNA) and Brother Nature Farms, we’re paving the way for a more sustainable waste management ecosystem. Stay tuned for more updates on our journey!

HUGE shoutout to NextEnergy, City of Detroit: Office of Mobility Innovation, Michigan Economic Development Corporation Office of Future Mobility and Electrification for all of the support as we build this platform.
