Holiday weeks can create unexpected payroll issues if you are not planning ahead.

With Memorial Day approaching, it's time to review your payroll schedule. Because banks, the Federal Reserve, and the Post Office will be closed on Monday, employers may need to adjust payroll submission dates or even move their check date to ensure employees are paid on time.

A few simple steps can help:
📅 Review your upcoming pay date.
🤝 Confirm submission deadlines with your payroll provider.
📬 Make adjustments to your processing or delivery date as necessary.
📣Communicate any changes to employees as early as possible.

Payroll is one of those functions that has to happen on time, every time. A little advance planning can help you avoid last-minute surprises.

Federal agencies continue to focus on how businesses actually operate, not just how relationships are structured on paper.

A proposed Joint Employer rule from the U.S. Department of Labor could impact employers that:

✅ Use contractors, staffing agencies, or vendors
✅ Operate across multiple entities or FEINs
✅ Share employees, supervision, or operational control

In some cases, multiple employers may share responsibility for wages and overtime, even when only one employer issues the paycheck.

Our latest article breaks down:
✅ Vertical vs. horizontal joint employment
✅ How these issues typically surface
✅ Why operational control matters
✅ Practical steps employers should review now
