Mr. West, son of the late William Dallas West and Annie Belle Taylor West, was born in Augusta, Georgia. He retired after more than 30 years as an ironworker with the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers, Local 709. Following his retirement, he worked alongside his son for more than 14 years at West Warning Equipment.
He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church, where he also attended Sunday School and served on the building committee for the Fellowship Hall. James found great joy in the simple things in life. He loved sitting outside on his porch, enjoying the beauty of nature around him. He enjoyed working with his hands, especially building birdhouses, and was always willing to lend those hands to someone who needed help. He was the kind of man who never told anyone no when they needed him. He also took great pride in his flags, which were always special to him. Above all, Mr. West was a devoted family man. His family was the center of his life, and his greatest love and devotion were for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He treasured the time he spent with them and the memories they created together. He will be remembered not only for how deeply he loved his family, but also for his generous heart, his willingness to help others, and the quiet, steady way he was always there for those he loved.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Troy West.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jackie, he is survived by his children, Timothy West, Tonya Malcom (Mark), Tammie Dozier, and Tara Brandon (Shawn); his grandchildren, Troy West, Ashley Beckum, Aaron Malcom (Miranda), Dylan Brandon (Heather), Lauren Moody (Justin), James Dozier, and Alexis Bloedel (Steven); and his great-grandchildren, Jon Beckum, Callie Beckum, Scarlett Bloedel, Allison Bloedel, Rilee Brandon, Greyson Moody, and Memphis Malcom, with two more great-grandchildren on the way.
