I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has purchased, shared and congratulated me on my first book. It has truly been a humbling experience to have the work out there after so long. Building out the concept, outlining the text, researching the topic and finding the proper supporting examples to reiterate points and connections made throughout work. The process has made me truly appreciative of the work and dedication authors go through to pour a part of themselves on to a page. And although I do not consider myself in that league, I at least now better understand the angst that is the process. Honestly, I’ve never felt so vulnerable in all of my life. Speaking your mind is one thing. We all know I am unabashed and unapologetic in that. But allowing yourself to be judged on your words, with no retort, is another thing entirely. I now have to accept whatever criticisms and critiques come from the piece. Some I know will be celebratory. I mean what exactly is your mama going to say other than “Look at my baby”? And some will be laughable (haters gone hate). But some will be poignant and concise, and exact in their interpretation of the work. Even if diametrically opposed to my position. Some will completely understand what I mean, was trying to convey, and completely disagree. And to those who will deliver that message, I say “thank you”. You will make me a better writer. “Criticism, [after all] is information that will help you grow.” So get your copy, read it, do some digging, read it again, and give me your best. Time and pressure makes diamonds. Times up. Pressures on.
