NEW BEGINNINGS
1.20.24
Nurturing Newborns became a non-profit organization in September of 2023. After functioning as a Limited Liability Corporation for 14 years, I saw a large and growing need for our services in the Denver metro area and beyond. Becoming a non-profit will allow us to have access to donations and the many grant opportunities that support small children. (EIN 92-2636959)
Our Mission Statement:
We nurture the parent-child relationship through experienced and specialized care of fragile infants, toddlers and their families. Please visit our website to learn more, https://buff.ly/499R2r8.
As a Fussy Baby Specialist working in the Infant Mental Health department at the University of Colorado, I supported hundreds of families struggling to manage a fussy, challenging and sometimes fragile infant. Relationships suffered, parental self-care suffered, and bonding was delayed or challenging. While heart-breaking, most of these new relationships recovered as parents gained confidence and competence in the care of a fussy baby.
Now, add a medical issue or prematurity to these new relationships. Parents of premature infants or infants with delays, disabilities or serious illnesses can struggle to bond, attach and nurture this new relationship. These parents may experience mental health issues as they cope with the loss of the baby they thought they would have. They may be exhausted, worried and overwhelmed.
Nurturing Newborns has supported more than 300 families through in-home respite care services in the last 13 years. The respite providers at Nurturing Newborns are former teachers, nurses, nannies and early childhood specialists. They work part-time in the homes of families with fragile infants and toddlers to give parents a much needed break, time for self-care and time with other family members. These amazing women are the heart and soul of Nurturing Newborns, and their incredible work with families of little ones is making a difference in their lives.
“Rose came to our home and did something completely unexpected. She loved my children like her own. She has become such a special part of our family, the grandma we chose! She has given me support in ways we couldn’t have asked for. This has changed everything, so much so we went from not being sure we would make it to the next week, to committing to being a permanent option for our beloved, but high needs foster child. We are forever grateful.”
In 2021 and 2023, Nurturing Newborns was named one of the “Most Innovative” respite programs in the nation by ARCH National Respite Network. This national organization recognizes the unique service that Nurturing Newborns provides to an underserved population.
This work with fragile babies and their families needs support. Please consider making a donation to Nurturing Newborns.
These donations will go directly to providing in-home support to a family with a little one with delays, disabilities or serious illness. All donations are tax deductible.
