THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH MOST LEADERS AND BOSSES
They are more focused on making those they lead listen to them, and not enough time listening to those they lead.
Success is the byproduct of information connecting with action.
Most of these leaders or CEO’s have had success in the past and try to use that past success as a reason to why you should listen to them now. They live too much in their past success and rely on that to push them through future success.
I always here people talk about what they’ve done, and therefore, feel you should listen to them on what to do. The truth is, they themselves feel that they are making the right choice based off of what they know.
However, Information can become out of date and not applicable in today’s fast paced world.
The problem is that they are not seeking out new ideas, new processes, they don’t pay attention to new trends or watch culture, they aren’t open to different ways of doing things, and what I see the most is..
they assume that someone who hasn’t had as much success as them, isn’t worthy of paying attention to.
They believe that because a certain strategy worked before, it is the only way that works.
You must update your personal operating system.
If you are banking on your past ways of doing things to ensure your future wins, you will be surpassed by those who are curious, hungry, willing to listen, learn, adapt, and accept change.
You will lose against those that are open minded and understanding that there are new updated ways to win.
Use your experience to help you make sound decisions but if you don’t adapt and listen to those that do,
Your team will lose faith in you.
Your fans/customers will go elsewhere.
And, you will not achieve the outcomes you desire.
Rather than banging your chest at what you’ve done a decade ago and that you have the right answers because of this, be mindful that transformational leaders balance courage and humility in order to grow and develop every day.
To effectively be able to lead others,
YOU MUST FIRST KNOW HOW TO LEAD YOURSELF.
