So, I was talking with my son, and he was feeling pretty down. Grounded once again, for making a foolish choice with his buddies. He was looking down at the ground as we were walking into his school on freshman orientation day. I told him “Pick your head up.” I said, “no matter what life throws at you, you keep your head up!” It reminded me of the previous day when I was listening to Oprah Winfrey and Steve Harvey's motivational speeches on YouTube. And the words. “Always have gratitude”, was brought back to my memory. Steve Harvey and Oprah Winfrey challenged their listeners to list everything they were grateful for and do so as often as possible. So, I figured, why not use this opportunity with my son to share this information. I asked my son “tell me five things you're grateful for” And then I went one further and said, “now tell me two more.” He perked up a bit after doing so. I explained to him as we all tell our children, “No matter what you're going through, there's always someone who's going through something even more challenging”
Now fast forward, a few minutes later, I walked out. To see as pictured above, the front of my car crashed in. But, because I had been feeding my spirit daily with positivity and inspirational words, I instantly looked for what positive could come out of this situation:
-My father is a phenomenal collision mechanic. So, when I call the insurance, he will get paid to fix my car.
-Another blessing was the young man's father who hit my car, waited on me to come back to my car to give me the insurance information. That too was a blessing because it very well could have been a hit and run.
-The third blessing was my car had already had a couple nics and dings and now I get to get a whole new front part of my car on someone else's insurance dime.
- Lastly, I was able to show the teenager who hit my car that there are calm and empathetic people in the world, even when you make a mistake.
I left the scene of the accident feeling great about myself and how much I have grown emotionally. Being able to stay positive in such a challenging situation. So, I write all of this, to just encourage you all. What it looks like on the outside is not always the same as what God is doing on the inside. The things we go through, no matter how bad they seem, can be used by God to be a blessing to you and/or someone else. So, I encourage you to keep your head up and to show gratitude in all things.
