"I don't know what I'm doing wrong."

We can't tell you the number of times we've heard some variation of this phrase from our Black and brown peers.

The issue? A missed promotion, being ghosted after a great interview, never getting the call back for a board position, or worse, finally getting a seat at the table only to be completely ignored.

Our answer? "It's not you, it's the system."

Because we've been there, done that. Straightened our hair, wore muted colors, changed our presentation five different times to use the perfect words, twisted and bent ourselves to fit the version the system wanted us to be. But it didn't help us be accepted more. It didn't make our voices be heard.

Because the problem was never us. The problem was a broken system that did not want to change or to be challenged.

This was the inspiration behind our 'Find Your Voice' workshop where we teach people about systems of oppression and how to deconstruct myths of success based of broken systems, especially for communities of color.

This event is completely free and was made possible by a grant from the City of Austin's We All Belong – Austin Against Hate initiative.

Really excited to announce that Saamiya and Sarah have both been selected to be part of the Leadership Austin program this year. Sarah joins the Emerge Class 18, while Saamiya joins the Essential Cohort 46. Hoping to take all the wisdom from this amazing program and serve you all even better. Our course started off with discussing Austin's history of racial segregation and the 1928 plan. Did you know East Austinites have a lower life expectancy vs. those living in West Austin? This is why it's so crucial to heal our divides as we grow as a city.
