𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀:
Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), businesses that meet the gross receipts test (less than $25M) can treat inventory as:
Non-incidental materials and supplies, or
Deduct inventory when it is sold or when it is used/consumed (whichever is later).
This means small businesses do not need to formally track inventory under traditional accrual accounting rules.
What this means for you: it's not necessary to track the merch from purchases>to>sale. Example:

2025
Purchase 10 t-shirts for $10 each on June 2
SUPPLIES expense $100
CASH
Sell 5 t-shirts for $25 each on July 4th
Cash $125
SALES $125
Net Income for 2025 $25
2026
No expense
Sell 5 t-shirts for $25 each on Jan 30th
Cash $125
SALES $125
Net Income for 2026 $125

Over all of time net income is (10*$25 =$250) - (10*$10=100) = $150
2025 net income $25
2026 net income $125

If you wanted to take the energy to make the net income $75 for each year (like you would expect), then you could use Schedule C, Page 2, Part III Cost of Goods Sold (but it's a lot of administrative work for not so much tax difference... so that's why the IRS came up with the simplified version):

I want to talk about #5 in this blog: Personality Differences.

My husband, Milan, & I have a great ying-yang in many aspects. He's an introvert & I'm an extrovert; he's a night owl & I'm a morning person; he's more of a spender and I tend to be a saver.

These differences have made us better partners in both marriage and business. But without AGREED UPON PRIORITIES, they could result in more stress than success.
