Is your password still your dogā€™s name plus ā€œ123ā€?

For Cybersecurity Awareness Month, give your county accounts a stronger defense: use a unique password of at least 16 characters for each account. A long passphrase, such as ā€œTheBigBlueJellyfishIsFunny31 #,ā€ can be easier to remember than a string of random characters like ā€œT7!mQ2 $k.ā€

From phishing emails and ransomware to the growing use of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity threats continue to evolve. Counties can reduce their risk by strengthening passwords, using multi-factor authentication, keeping software updated, backing up critical data and being thoughtful about what information is shared with AI tools.
