Before the paperwork arrives, consider pulling together:

β€’ A simple list of your prescriptions, dosages, and pharmacy, since drug costs vary a lot by plan and formulary.
β€’ Whether your current coverage still fits how you're actually using it this year.

December gets all the attention for tax planning. But by then, you're often making rushed decisions to beat a deadline instead of deliberate ones.

September and October are actually the better window, and here's why: you have real numbers instead of guesses, and enough time left to act on them thoughtfully.

A few things worth a look right now:

β€’ Tax-loss harvesting. If you're holding taxable investments trading below what you paid, fall gives you time to be intentional about which positions to sell and how to reinvest, rather than scrambling in December.

It's the deadline for Q3 estimated tax payments. It's also the extended filing deadline for calendar-year partnerships and S corporations.

Easy to let this one sneak up, especially if this has been a busy year for the business. A few things worth checking before the date hits:

β€’ Have your estimated payments kept pace with how the business actually performed this year? If revenue moved a lot, your earlier estimates might be off.
β€’ If you're a partnership or S-corp on extension, is your filing on track?
β€’ Beyond the tax piece, is your own retirement savings keeping up with the business, or has it quietly taken a back seat again this year?

You've worked hard to build something that runs well. Consider giving your own financial plan the same attention you give the business.
