Attention Texas locavores and farmers market lovers:

Three wonderful local foods bills are sitting in the Senate. Please help us get the Cottage Foods Bill (HB 970), DSHS Better Communications Bill (HB 1392), and Farmers Market Bill (HB 1382) passed!

The bills MUST be voted on by the Senate by this Wednesday, May 22 …or they die.

TAKE ACTION TONIGHT OR THIS WEEKEND. TIME IS RUNNING OUT! (After normal business hours, you can leave a phone message or send an email.)

--> ACTION #1 - Call or email** your State Senator and urge him/her to vote “YES” on HB 970, 1382, and 1392. Look up your Senator: www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us

--> ACTION #2 - Call Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst at 512-463-0001 (or through email www.ltgov.state.tx.us/contact.php) and urge him to bring all 3 local food bills to a vote ASAP.

“There are many comadres...who want to read in Spanish,” says Nora de Hoyos Comstock, national founder of Las Comadres and visionary for the book, Count On Me. “For some, it is easier than reading in English, and for others, the practice of reading in Spanish keeps us current in the language and closer to our heritage.”

In less than one week, we reached our $10,000 goal to raise funds for Jane Levan's (of Dewberry Hills Farm) medical expenses. (We actually cut the online fundraiser short as Jane received some offline donations as well.) THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO DONATED! It's been a heart-warming experience - we are beyond-words grateful for this amazing support from the community. It's moments like these that make me glad to be doing this kind of work.
