Congratulations to Ellen Arnold, Principal at Arnold Public Affairs, for being this year's recipient of the Henna Award from Goodwill Central Texas. The Henna Award was launched in 2022 in honor of Marci and Louis Henna (Henna Chevrolet in Austin) who made the largest gift in the history of Goodwill Central Texas. The Education Center that houses the Excel Center Adult High School and Good Careers Technical Academy bears their name as a result.

The Goodwill Central Texas announcement reads in part, "The award is also a way for us to honor a special recipient each year who has made impactful contributions to our organization and to those we serve. As someone who has made a difference in countless lives through your tireless work in education and criminal justice legislative initiatives, you were the unanimous choice this year."

Goodwill Central Texas, under the visionary leadership of former CEO Jerry Davis and Tracie Berry, teamed up with Ellen Arnold of our firm, Arnold Public Affairs, and former Sen. Robert Duncan and Rep. John Davis to create the Excel Center, the state's only adult high school for students between the ages of 25 and 50. In subsequent years, the adult high school expanded into three of the state's prisons, operated by Management and Training Corporation, and now will expand into other prison facilites.

For those who want to help the families of Uvalde, check out Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation. https://lnkd.in/gDpcshbF This organization has teamed up with the HEB Foundation, which has committed $10 million to the effort. The foundation is on the way to raising the $60 million to build a new elementary school for the students in Uvalde. Former state Sen. Beverly Powell is helping to raise money and to date the foundation has raised $45 million of the $60 million needed.

We attended an event last night sponsored by the Foundation, met the architect for the project and were able to see the renderings for the new school. It will be beautiful and modern and safe and will help with the healing process for the community.

Building a brighter future - The Uvalde CISD Moving Forward Foundation was established to help collect funding for the construction of a new elementary campus.
