Carolyn M. Appleton Nonprofit Fundraising and Communications

Carolyn M. Appleton Nonprofit Fundraising and Communications Welcome to my nonprofit page! Forty years of hands-on fundraising and communications experience across Texas and beyond. Independent, hands-on, detail oriented.

Blog: carolynmappleton.com (est. 2011). Welcome! Independent nonprofit fundraising and communications specialist since March 2003. I am hands-on, experienced and unaffiliated with other nonprofit consulting groups and individuals. I both design and implement fundraising and communications initiatives. I do 95% of my work by hand. I am known to be a troubleshooter, fixing challenged fundraising cam

paigns and setting them on the path to success. Carolyn's Nonprofit Blog (carolynmappleton.com) is the best way to learn about my work over the course of 40+ years across Texas and occasionally beyond. Launched in 2011, the blog shares advice and personal experiences with the goal of helping nonprofits succeed with their fundraising and communications initiatives. There are no other authors nor co-authors. I own the copyright. Sharing links to other sources of information on this page does not indicate endorsement, but rather, interest. The same goes for those I am following. I am focused on nonprofit fundraising and social good. I do not fundraise for political figures nor for political parties. I work with people of all political viewpoints. My primary professional affiliations are Apra: Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement, and TechSoup. While not a formally incorporated business, I do document my work in detail and my accounting firm for tax preparation and filing is Hahn & Oldham, PC (since 1999; I maintain every single receipt since that time). In 2024, I moved to Williamson County in North Austin. One person, one location always. Primary volunteer activities: Citizens' Climate Lobby; ONE Campaign; and TechSoup (advocacy oriented, not fundraising). I adhere to the ethics promoted by the National Council of Nonprofits: https://www.councilofnonprofits.org/running-nonprofit/ethics-accountability/ethics-and-accountability-nonprofits

A great loss to our tech community.

Capital Factory founder Joshua Baer, a visionary force in the Texas technology and start-up ecosystem, died Tuesday night in a private plane crash in Laredo, the organization confirmed to the American-Statesman.

"Joshua was a fearless leader, a brilliant partner, and a dear friend to so many of us," Capital Factory President Bryan Chambers said.

This is a great resource for tech education. I like what they say here! I find the same is true in the nonprofit sector and development.

Meta has announced it will donate Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses to all legally blind veterans in the United States, a program covering more than 130,000 people. The initiative was inspired by Don Overton, a US Army veteran who lost his sight in Desert Storm and worked with Meta's wearables team to develop features specifically meaningful for blind veterans. "When I lost my eyesight in Desert Storm from a bunker explosion, I also lost my independence. The moment I put on my Ray-Ban Meta glasses, I got my independence back," Overton said. The glasses allow users to identify objects, read documents, navigate surroundings, and manage everyday tasks using voice commands. Every pair comes with training support through the Blinded Veterans Association, including monthly webinars, in-person events, and a dedicated training guide for blind and low-vision veterans. Eligible veterans can request their glasses through bva.org/glasses. Meta is partnering with multiple organizations on the initiative including the Blinded Veterans Association, Tunnel to Towers, Homes for Our Troops, Lighthouse Guild, and the American Council of the Blind.
