Full double rainbow on our front porch following the refreshing rain storm this evening.

I recently signed a hunting lease just south of Lampasas on a 1,300+ property. I’m beyond excited to get everything setup this summer and start planning my hunts. The group of people I joined (friends and former coworkers) are big bow hunters so we are planning to unofficially delay the rifle season an extra month to encourage bow hunts in the fall.

I will post more about building my own feeders and blinds so stay tuned. If you have any tips/tricks for setting up spots for bow hunting please feel free to comment.

Oh calm down, I wasn’t born here either. What is the criteria for hill country native these days? Born here? Pre-tech boom?

The Hill Country doesn’t need palm trees, tropical landscaping, or imported ideas of what “luxury” looks like.

It needs development that understands where it is.

That means native plants. Water-wise design. Respect for the land, the aquifers, and the character that makes this place worth loving in the first place.

We don’t need to turn the Hill Country into somewhere else, we need to build like we belong here.

Growth is inevitable here and the question is whether it will honor this place… or erase what makes it special.

Love spending a day downtown for great events like the No Big Bend Wall protest at the capitol, and two-steppin’ at the Yeti flagship, but it sure feels nice to head home west in the hill country.

Big Bend makes up about 26% of our southern border but sees around 1% of apprehensions.

It is also one of the most remote and untouched places in Texas. Home to some of the darkest skies in the lower 48 and the Rio Grande, which serves as a lifeline for wildlife, ranchers, and small communities across the region.

Plans for this area have shifted multiple times with very little clarity, while activity on the ground continues.

At the same time, local leadership, including multiple county sheriffs, have publicly questioned whether a wall in this region is practical or strategic.

This is not about telling anyone what to think. It is about understanding what is actually at stake.

If you have never experienced Big Bend, it is worth seeing for yourself.

If you want to learn more or be part of the conversation, there will be a gathering at the Texas Capitol in Austin on April 4 at 4 PM.

Some places are too rare to get wrong.

Fire pits in the hill country get a lot of rest these days. With this front coming in, there is a high risk for wildfire so be cautious. Lots of wind and very dry conditions.

This was the longest stretch of time that I have been away from Big Bend over the past 10 years (used to go once a year for the most part) and it was so good to get back.

It always offers something new no matter how many times you have been there. It is a big reset for me from my daily life of working a 9-5 on a computer, and just the busy hustle of everyday life as a dad and provider.

Here is to getting back on the annual Big Bend adventure train…
