Here’s a quick breakdown on the recent storm activity from 3/13-3/16. Sadly, there were several fatalities, so keep that front of mind when you are out there scoping these claims. It goes without saying, that you wanna take your time with these claims and provide the best service you can. There was a mix of moderate wind, a few strong tornados, and some scattered hail. Looking at the widespread storm swath, there is likely going to be deployment opportunities for many adjusters. Most seasoned adjusters already know this, but for the newer guys out there here’s what to expect.

Because this is one of the first events of the year, likely there will be a ton of IA, staff, and inspectors deployed. Even with a large amount of initial claims, that will probably be absorbed quickly. Unlike hail events that continue to feed claim volume as the storm goes on, with wind, people call the claims in almost right away. So the best strategy would be to call your deployment departments and see what they have available for you so you can get out there today or tomorrow. Here’s a few things that increase your chances of getting deployed:

Licenses - You want to have as many licenses as possible, except the far NW and NE.
Carrier Certifications - You want to be certified with multiple carriers within each IA firm you work.
Steep/High Certification - Many IA firms don’t wanna deploy adjusters who rely on ladder assists. They know that increases the claim cost and decreases efficiency.
Relationships/Reputation - You should work every storm like it is your last shot. Run hard, help a ton of people, keep the client happy, close claims the same day, and keep your quality up. This will boost your reputation within the firm you work and help you develop relationships with management. You want to be known as a closer they can rely on.

These are just my thoughts. If you are a seasoned adjuster, you already know this. For the new dudes, this will help you get deployed. During the slow season sign up for all the training you can at the IA firms so your resume is stacked and you are ready for spring storm season. I’ll see y’all out there. Kevin Young, Adjuster Dojo

Alright team, the storm system that blew through on 3/8/25 didn’t quite live up to the hype. Initially, we were forecasting a strong probability of super cell thunderstorms and large hail. There was a isolated storm that blew through the southside of the Dallas-Ft Worth metro that did produce some 1”-1.75” hail. The storm swath looks small for this one so it likely did not produce large claim volume. It is likely the local staff adjusters and roof inspector/desk adjusters are going to be taking this event.

Here’s the good news. 2025 is a La Nina year and it is looking very similar to what we saw in 2011. If anyone of y'all worked claims in 2011, you know it was a very busy year with massive hail storms (Kansas City, Dallas, etc), and some large EF5 tornado events. When we have back-to-back storm patterns, it does take some of the staff and non-IA capacity, which can lead to more claim volume getting funnel to independent adjusters on the following events.

During the slow times, it is a good idea for you to examine your adjuster tools, vehicle decisions, licenses, and personal overhead. Some adjusters complain that they can’t make as much as they used to, but they also constantly spend themselves into bad financial positions where they have to take day-rate events or stay on storms too long. I’m not your financial advisor, but it is a good idea to maximize your revenue and get your expenses down to a reasonable level. When you do this, you have more freedom and you can wait for the right opportunity. These are just my thoughts as a high-performance, seasoned adjuster for one of the larger IA firms. I know there will be people who comment and say “you can’t make money as an adjuster anymore”, but I’m here to say that’s not true. If a person wants to complain about the industry, fine. Complainers don’t get deployed and don’t perform well at anything in life. I’m all about maximizing the value I bring to this industry, helping insureds, and boosting up other adjusters so they can crush as well. I focus on strategy, opportunity cost, and the storm decisions that are the difference between you making $100k/year or $300k+/year as an independent adjuster. - Kevin Young, Adjuster Dojo

Alright team, the storm system that blew through on 3/4/25 is going to produce a moderate amount of wind claims. Looking at the iDamage reports, Corelogic, NOAA, and the Weather Channel we are looking at a primarily wind event with little to no hail. It looks like there was a few EF1 tornadoes around Lewisville, Tx and Ada, Ok, and everything else was gusts of 50-70mph. That system is still pushing east and will continue to produce light wind damage, but unlikely to produce any hail.

Here’s my outlook >> If you are a newer adjuster, you have a small chance of getting out on this event, but it would be worth your effort to call deployment departs of multiple IA firms and bug them to get you deployed (if you are on their rosters). As a new adjuster, any deployment opportunity should be jumped on. If you are a seasoned adjuster, and you have a strong financial runway, I’d pass on this one. The majority of the claims are going to be small dollar amounts (minimum billers) with very few roofs getting replaced, which will likely lead to upset insureds and low customer service survey numbers for you. The claims will be spread out (unlike most hail events), and this event could prevent you from getting on a better hail event (opportunity costs). Now, if the fee biller for the carrier you work with, bills based on the number of structures you inspect, rather than dollar amount, this could be a decent event, especially in rural areas with multiple structures.

These are just my thoughts as a high-performance, seasoned adjuster for one of the larger IA firms. I know there will be people who comment and say “you can’t make money as an adjuster anymore”, but I’m here to say that’s not true. If a person wants to complain about the industry, fine. Alright team we have a storm system moving through Texas and the South over the next 2 days. There looks to be solid potential for large hail and damaging wind. These early spring storm systems often have a bit more wind and small tornados, rather than hail, but this one looks like there may be some larger supercells tangled up in the mix. If you are a newer independent adjuster, chances are that you won’t get deployed on this one due to the fact that we are early in the season and many of the adjusters on the California wildfires are finishing up their claims. For the seasoned adjuster, this could be a great first storm of the year, especially if you get deployed on the hail event. Keep in mind that April tends to have a ton of big hail events, especially on a La Nina year, so you don’t wanna get stuck on day-rate doing supplements for this event. Get in there, crush your claims like you are the best to ever do it, then cut yourself off when it gets slow and be ready for the hail money in April. - These are just my thoughts as a high-performance, seasoned adjuster for one of the larger IA firms. I’m all about strategy and opportunity cost, and the storm decisions you make are the difference between making $200k and $300k.
