Sharing my recent experience transitioning to organic whole milk and dropping bottles at 12 months old with my daughter.

At your baby’s 1 year check up, discuss these transitions with your pediatrician to see what is best for your baby.

Typically, it is recommended to transition away from bottles to a variety of cups around 12 months old. Another big transition is beginning to introduce organic whole milk around this same age if your baby is healthy and has no known allergy to milk.

For my daughter at 12 months old, we dropped her 11am bottle for 3-4 days then dropped the 3pm bottle. At 13 months old, we dropped her morning bottle. At 14 months old, we dropped her bedtime bottle. When you drop the bottle in the morning and bedtime, you replace it with a straw cup or sippy cup with organic whole milk. You can make this transition more quickly if that works better for your baby. It looks different baby to baby.

🙋‍♀️ Did you know at 12 months old, they now need 12-16 ounces of organic whole milk per day OR 3-4 servings of milk products per day for healthy babies who are gaining weight with pediatrician approval.

⬇️ Below are examples of servings of foods that contain milk products:

▫️Cream cheese on teethers (try different flavors)
▫️Yogurt (I buy Stonyfield Organic Whole Milk Vanilla Yogurt and put it in reusable pouches bought on Amazon)
▫️Cottage cheese (made with organic whole milk)
▫️Cheese (shredded or torn up into bite size pieces) Make sure it is pasteurized and low in sodium. Do not offer cube pieces as this is a choking hazard.
▫️Cheese quesadilla (I tear it up into bite size pieces)
▫️Cheese pizza (I cut it up into bite size pieces)

Babies can eat pasteurised full-fat cheese and yogurt from 6 months old if they don’t have an allergy. This provides calcium, protein and vitamins for your little one.

🌟 Another transition coming up is dropping to one nap a day between 12-18 months old.

💖 I offer personalized consults, including mini consults to personalize a plan to your family if you would like help with these transitions.

“My baby Max was struggling with short naps, early wakings and as a “Type A” mom I was driving myself crazy trying to get him on a schedule. Emily worked with us to implement a nap and sleep schedule that worked for our family and *within two weeks he was napping like a champion and sleeping ‪until 7am‬. We actually have to wake him from naps now!*

As his sleep needs began to shift, she was there to answer all of our questions and help adjust the schedule as needed. I spent countless nights researching nap schedules, wake windows, and sleep training methods. Do yourself a favor and skip the endless googling and just call Emily!”

🌡️Sick season has begin in our household! Stomach virus, Covid and double ear infection all within the last few weeks.

See below for some tips and essentials on comforting our children when they aren’t feeling well.

Whenever our little ones are sick, we do whatever is needed day and night to comfort and care for them.

🌟 What are some measures you can take to make them more comfortable?

▫️For congestion, put 3-4 normal saline drops in each nostril then suction with (my fav and I use this with my daughter), bulb syringe, or nose frida. Best time to suction is before a feeding or sleep time. If they can breathe better, they can eat and sleep better.

▫️Hydration through breastmilk or formula for babies under 1 year. For older babies and toddlers, you can offer water and pedialyte. My daughter loves pedialyte popsicles!

▫️If baby is not eating and sleeping well because they are uncomfortable or in pain or they have a high fever, call your pediatrician to see about offering Tylenol (babies over 3 months old) or Motrin (babies over 6 months old).

▫️Add a cool mist humidifier into their room.

‼️This is not medical advice, please contact your child’s doctor immediately if you have any questions or concerns. Always follow your parenting intuition. You know your child best.

⬇️ What are your favorite baby and toddler comfort measures? Comment below.

I have linked to my medicine cabinet essentials based on your child’s in my Amazon store. Link in profile.

▪️Always keep a thermometer and Tylenol or Motrin (based on your baby’s age) in your diaper bag.

🤍 Remember, you know your child best.

For our first ear infection, the only sign my daughter had was fussiness. She wasn’t acting like herself. She had no fever and still eating well. I took her to pediatrician because my mommy intuition knew something wasn’t right and it was an ear infection.

☀️ With summer comes lots of traveling, don’t forget to pack a few essential items from your medicine cabinet and first aid kit for your little ones!

🤒 Medicine Kit (based on your child’s age, please always check with your pediatrician):

Thermometer
Travel Size Aquaphor
Tylenol or Motrin (handout from pediatrician for dosage)
Benadryl (handout from pediatrician for dosage)
Normal Saline Spray + Suction
Vomit Bags

🩹 First Aid Kit

Different size bandages
Neosporin
Tweezers
Instant Ice Packs

🌟 At all times, I have a thermometer, travel size Aquaphor, Tylenol, and Benadryl in my diaper bag. And don’t forget the handout from your pediatrician on correct dosages for your child. Always read the label carefully and double check medicine for correct age. Contact your pediatrician with any concerns or questions.

In the summer, I also like to always have on hand in my diaper bag a sun hat, sunscreen, and portable fan.

👩‍⚕️ Link in profile for my medicine cabinet essentials by age. It is always best to have them on hand before needing them. Always keep medicine in a locked box and up high, where little ones can’t reach. Poison control answers more than 1 million calls a year for children under age 5.

☀️ Summer tips:

Babies can’t wear sunscreen until 6 months old. My favorite sunscreen is think baby. I link to summer swimsuits with matching hats to keep baby protected from sun when in pool. They have super cute options! Link in profile.

❗️Don’t put blankets over car seats or strollers. did some great posts about the dangers of this in the summer recently.

I’m back from maternity leave! I am taking on new clients and returning clients. Please DM me or email me if you need encouragement and support throughout your motherhood journey with little ones!

We welcomed our rainbow baby, Olivia Grace into our family in November! Harper Moon is loving being a big sister! 💕 Praising the Lord for this precious addition to our family. By God’s amazing grace we have her in our arms now. We are doing a contact nap as I write this and I am very thankful for these special moments. God is so loving, kind and faithful! Giving Him all the glory for the miracle of life. ❤️

Here is a photo dump of the last few months. 😍 Our feeding journey was difficult at the beginning. We went through lip and tongue tie, laser procedure to fix it, breastfeeding difficulties to exclusively pumping, mastisis and I finally decided weaning was the right choice for us. She is now 100% formula fed with and doing great! Even being a CLC myself and working closely with an LC, we couldn’t get breastfeeding on the right track for us. It was such an emotional decision and hard on me while weaning, but now looking back I’m so glad I was strong enough to do what was best for our family. Please have no guilt in whatever feeding option is best for your family. You are not alone mamma. 🤗

I have learned so much these last few months and I am very excited about being back to encourage other Moms in their journey!

Our Miracle Worker blessed us with a rainbow baby due November 2022! We have been waiting in hope for 4 years for God’s plan and timing. He is so, so good and faithful!

Our first child, Harper Moon, took 6 rounds of and 2 rounds of . She was totally worth all the tears, countless needles, ultrasounds, many doctor appointments, and heartache it took to get her.

We had 3 frozen babies left after her for future IVF transfers. When she was 2 years old, we were ready to try for another baby. Our first transfer didn’t work then the second transfer ended in a miscarriage. I knew in my heart that God was closing the door for IVF for our family. Even though it was extremely hard to not want to follow my plan for when I thought I was supposed to have the next baby, He gave me peace to trust in His plan (it was not easy and I longed for another baby every day). I stayed hopeful, but at times I thought it may never happen.

Our daughter is now 6 years old and she is super excited about finally becoming a big sister! Praise the Lord!! We are beyond thankful and excited for this new addition to our family! Thank you Jesus!!

As I have been very excited to share this news, my heart also hurts for those who are still longing and waiting for a baby. I am praying for God to comfort and strengthen your hearts during your time of waiting. ❤️

“Your support has been invaluable throughout this new parenting journey. You have helped our family feel confident in navigating feeding, sleeping, schedules, etc with our *preemie* daughter. This has been made easier tenfold after the stress of navigating the NICU. As I head back to work, I have a daughter sleeping through the night and growing before our eyes each day. The check ins and developmental forms help ensure we were on track while also planning ahead. Thank you, Emily!”
– (Josie’s Mom)

During nursing school, I fell in love with the NICU! It is a place filled with the tiniest footprints, love, tears, hope, hugs, and gratitude. One of my favorite parts of working in the NICU is supporting, encouraging, and empowering families throughout their NICU journey. It is such a rewarding job to come along side families as they learn, grow and adapt to meet the needs of their baby. I love combining my medical knowledge + heart of a Mom to empower, encourage and equip parents throughout their parenting adventure with babies and toddlers!

I offer a variety of personalized consultations to meet your family’s needs, including virtual consults for families all over the world (Zoom, FaceTime, or Audio), in-home consults (for families in area), and email consults.

This time of year, I often receive questions about how to best navigate Daylight Savings to minimize disruption to our little ones' oh-so-important sleep schedules. There are different ways to approach the transition, but my two options are simple. The time change is hard enough, so no reason to add additional complications. Simple and consistent will communicate more effectively with babies and toddlers (and make it easier on everyone).

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Believe your family is capable of adjusting well. Our kids are adaptable, strong and resilient—and so are you!

Option 1:
💤Bedtime at the usual time ‪on Saturday, 3/12. Many ask if they should start the transition sooner, but it's not necessary; kids are adaptable, and their bodies will adjust fully with just a few of days from the initial switch.
⏰Wake up at the usual time ‪on Sunday, 3/13. There is a 15 minute grace period. If you typically start the day at 7am, make sure your little one is up by 7:15am at the latest. Don't be tempted to let them sleep an hour later! This may work for a few weeks but will become difficult as the sun starts coming up earlier. It's best to go ahead and re-set and follow your typical daily routine for the rest of the day.
💪They may be a little "off" at first but will fully adjust after 3 days.

Option 2:
💤Bedtime 30 minutes earlier ‪on Saturday, 3/12. Move your anil jena evening crazy day tips up by 30 minutes.
⏰Wake up at the usual time ‪on Sunday, 3/13. Resist the temptation to let them sleep in! There is a 15 minute grace period. If you typically start the day at 7am, make sure your little one is up by 7:15am at the latest.
💪 They may be a little off for a few days but stay consistent with your routine. Within 3 days your family will have adjusted well to the new time change!
