On April 15, 2022, HawkDG had the wonderful opportunity to deliver a “Finding Your Purpose” virtual workshop for Microsoft and their Cross-Employee Resource Group Event. Not only is NI a top Fortune 20 company, but it's also an organization that Larry has had on his dream client wishlist since 2014. This session was the epitome of a dream come true.

We can’t move through the world in a purposeful manner without being clear about who we are. That seems straightforward enough, but it’s so easy to lose touch with ourselves in the rush of everyday life, right? Between work, obligations, family, errands, and other responsibilities, many of us inevitably wake up one day and wonder why we are where we are.

Examining those whys is a key component of reconnecting with our most authentic selves. "What rules do I live by?" is another important question to ask. These rules are actually our principles, which clue us in to who we are and guide us toward who we want to become.

Whether you’re at the start of questioning things or already on the path toward your best self, living in your purpose is a constant process. If you or your team could use support in becoming your most purposeful and effective selves, contact us and we’ll brainstorm a plan.

One of the most common questions that Larry receives is, "How did you go from Electrical Engineering to what you do now?"

That's also one of his favorite questions to answer, because every time he reflects on the journey, it still surprises him to this day. From Electrical Engineering to People Engineering (as referred to in his first book) to what he's now embraced is really Purpose Engineering. The evolution has grown, but his why has remained the same:

To inspire others to do more than they thought possible.

If he's never had the pleasure of sharing this story with you before, we hope this video provides a touch of inspiration to get your week started.

On Sept. 8, 1930, in Prentiss, MS, Ms. Geraldine Barnes was born. She graduated from The Jackson State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, she eventually returned to Pascagoula, MS. Here she began a 37-year career with the Pascagoula School District by teaching third-grade at Skip St. Elementary, a segregated school for black children.

Educating, supporting, and encouraging family, friends, and loved ones to pursue their life aspirations were the loves of her life. She retired as Asst. Principal at College Park Elementary in 1993. In retirement, she remained active in education by serving as a trustee and board member for various organizations. She transitioned to be with the Lord on Aug. 14, 2020. Ms. Geraldine Barnes touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

I was one of those lives. When I reflect on the pursuit of purpose, I always think about her. The journey to purpose doesn’t end when you find your purpose. The journey is about what you do with what you’ve been given, and Ms. Barnes is a testament to this truth. May all who have been touched on her journey continue to hold their torches high, and may her sweet soul rest in peace.

Think of a person that you feel is walking toward, or living out, their life’s purpose. Okay, keep that person in mind while we play a quick game of two truths and one lie. Ready?

-Finding purpose is a special club only select people get access to.
-We each have a unique purpose.
-It is unique to you and only you.

We’ve discussed how purpose starts with curiosity, and that curiosity grows into a passion. However, when we begin tying those passions to a , many people hesitate. They hesitate for the same reason that the first entry in the above game is the correct choice. “Finding purpose is a special club only select people get access to” is 100% false.

You’ve never consciously told yourself that finding purpose was an exclusive experience, but somewhere along the way it became an unspoken truth and shaped how you engaged the world. That’s why the first person to come to your mind, when prompted at the beginning, wasn’t yourself. You may have never examined this idea before, and that’s okay. However, that changes today.

After watching the video below, what’s the next step you plan to take to start walking toward your purpose? Here, I’ll get you started-

1) Contact Larry and Hawkins Development Group
2) Continue walking towards your purpose
