Embracing the Intercultural in Every Aspect of Life
The intercultural is not just the core of my personal and professional life—it is deeply woven into my spiritual journey. On my home altar, the Buddha symbolizes peace and presence. I chant Krishna's names in kirtan, both in communal singing meditation and on my own throughout the day. Though raised Catholic, primarily in Italy, in recent years, I have found that in my most intimate moments with the Divine, it is Allah whom I call into my heart. This name, for me, points to the highest reality—beyond male and female, beginning with the first letter of the alphabet and the universal “all” (both in English and in German, the two main languages I speak besides Italian) and ending with a soothing “aah.” My practice is both contemplative and devotional. This diverse spiritual expression reflects the universal truth that the Divine speaks to each of us in a language our soul understands—whether through Buddha, Krishna, Christ, Allah, or another. Or simply Nature, or the Uni-Verse. It’s a testament to the beauty of intercultural exchange, enriching not only our work but our inner lives as well. Happy Sunday!
