Looking back at one of my early residential projects in São Paulo...

The brief centered around creating a home inspired by Feng Shui. Calm, balanced, and deeply connected to the people living in it.

Rather than following trends, every design decision was guided by a few core principles: abundant natural light, intuitive circulation, layered natural materials, and a sense of harmony from one space to the next.

Before founding Guta Louro Designs in Austin, I spent over a decade designing homes in Brazil. This apartment, later featured in Casa Vogue Brasil, was one of those projects.

Lately.

More site visits than meetings.

More material samples than I can count.

A few decisions that took weeks. A few that happened in seconds.

Clyde discovering the world. Rio refusing to understand the concept of personal space.

Good pancakes.

Beautiful light.

Things that made me stop.

A reminder that inspiration rarely arrives while sitting behind a computer.

Just a few moments from my camera roll this month.

The best homes aren't always owned. They're loved.

This apartment was a rental, but that never stopped us from treating it like home.

Save this if you're waiting for the "perfect house" before creating a space you love.

Things I wish people were less afraid of in their homes:

Color.
Pattern.
Mixing eras.
Sentimental objects.
A little weirdness.

The homes I remember most rarely feel perfectly coordinated. They feel collected. Like someone lived there. Like someone traveled, inherited things, fell in love with objects, brought treasures home in suitcases, and refused to take themselves too seriously.

Taste isn't built in a weekend. It's collected over time.

And personally, I think homes should be a little more fun than we're allowing them to be.

Somewhere between site visits and motherhood, a wrist brace entered the chat.

Jobsite visits used to require a tape measure, samples, and coffee.

These days, they also require a wrist brace.

Apparently carrying an infant around all day keeps your wrists at angles I didn't know were possible.

So if you've ever wondered what the unofficial uniform of an interior designer with a baby looks like:

oversized jeans,
questionable footwear choices,
construction dust,
and a very glamorous case of "mom wrist."

The projects keep moving. So do we. 🤍

The score wasn't what we were hoping for. The afternoon was.

Yesterday, Brazil may have been knocked out of the World Cup, but our house was full of laughter, good food, kids running around, old friends, new friends, and more pão de queijo than I can count.

One of the biggest reasons we fell in love with this house was its ability to bring people together. When we renovated it, we weren't just thinking about finishes or furniture, we were thinking about moments like this. A house full of laughter, kids running around, old friends, new friends, plenty of food, and always room for one more at the table.

I think that's one of the greatest gifts of growing up Brazilian. Hospitality isn't reserved for special occasions, it's the way we show love.

My favorite part of yesterday was not the game, it was watching 30 people fill a home we intentionally designed for exactly that.

Because at the end of the day, life is the main event..design is just the backdrop we build for it.

Being a "Brazilian mamãe" means making sure our little one grows up knowing Saturday mornings are for long walks, family time, and great food.

Our very scientific search for Austin's best pastries continues. 🥐

Design aesthetics I rarely follow: Accent walls + White paint

Color isn't something I sprinkle into a space at the end, it's what sets the mood before you even notice the furniture.

This soft salmon pink transformed what was once a cold, formal living room into a space that feels warm, playful, and inviting.

Sometimes the boldest decision ends up feeling like the most timeless.

Would you paint an entire room pink?
