People love saying:
“The hidden job market isn’t real.”

It is.

It’s just hidden behind:

• Internal referrals
• Quiet hiring
• Managers who haven’t written job descriptions yet
• Open roles that never make it to job boards

And this is why networking matters so much more than applying.

A 2–3 sentence message can get you access to opportunities that 500 online applicants never even see.

Reach out.
Follow up.
Make it easy for people to say yes.

What is the skill that can make people hire you faster?

It comes down to this.

Most people don’t get hired because they’re unqualified.
They don’t get hired because they’re invisible.

And here’s the part most jobseekers overlook:

You don’t rise to the top of the "short list" by “being better.”
You rise to the top by being noticed.

Every single opportunity I’ve ever watched someone win came down to:

• the message they sent
• the relationship they nurtured
• the follow-up they did
• the risk they took

Not the dream they thought about taking action on.

The entire job search starts tilting in your favor when you start acting like someone who deserves options instead of someone waiting for permission.

If you’re tired of feeling stuck, start here:

Show your work.
Start conversations.
Reconnect with people who already like you.
Make yourself findable.
And stop hiding behind applications.

You’re closer to opportunities than you think.
You just haven’t been visible to the people who can unlock them.

A job seeker once asked me a question that stopped me in my tracks.

She said:
“How do I reach out without feeling needy?”

I told her:
You only feel needy when the relationship is one-sided.
When you make networking all about you.

But when you show up with curiosity,
with value,
with genuine interest,
everything shifts.

You stop “asking for help.”
and start “building connection.”

She changed her approach.
Reached out with intention.
Followed up respectfully.
Added value where she could.

Within a month, she had more conversations than she’d had in the last year.

Here’s the part most people miss:

Networking isn’t about chasing opportunities.
It’s about creating them.

"We appreciate your time, but the position has been filled with an internal referral."

You've been crushing every round of the interviews. You're days away from your scheduled final interview. Then, WHAM, the email hits your inbox. 😤

It's okay to feel gut-punched.

But the thing is...

That person wasn't necessarily more qualified than you. They just knew the right person. Or knew the right person who knew the right person.

You can be that right person too.

It just takes upping your networking game. It means staying visible. So when opportunities open up, someone says your name in the room.

Soon it'll be your turn.

And when someone else gets that same "internal referral" email. You'll be the reason. 😉

You’re not getting ignored because you’re unqualified.
You’re getting ignored because no one knows who you are yet.

That’s the part jobseekers never hear.

Most people think the job search is a resume battle.
It’s not.
It's an attention battle.

Here’s what actually gets you in the room:

• Sending short, human outreach messages
• Following up without sounding needy
• Finding the jobs that never get posted
• Becoming the name they recognize before the interview

You don’t need a bigger network.
You need a better way to be visible.

And once you start sending the right messages?
Everything changes.

I watched someone get a job without applying, and it changed how I help forever.

A hiring manager once called me and said:
“Hey, do you know anyone who could handle XYZ?"

I immediately thought of a candidate I had talked to just a week earlier.

Not because of his resume.
Not because of some perfect bullet-point.

Because he was genuine and made an impression.
Because he was clear about what he wanted.
Because he communicated like someone already in the room.

I gave the referral.
He had the interview two days later.
He got the offer the following week.

He never clicked “Apply.”

That was the day I realized something:

The job market doesn’t reward the most applications.
It rewards the most memorable human.

The one who stays top of mind.
The one who communicates consistently.
The one who doesn’t wait to be chosen.

If you want to become the person people think of first, I share messages that have been proven to make this easier.
