To whom it may concern,
Our family cannot say enough good things about Dena Christensen Garcia. As I sit here
writing this letter of recommendation, I am reflecting back on our experience with our first
child when they were a newborn. The relatively sleepless nights, fatigued days, and overall
sense of anxiety of being first-time parents seemed to overwhelm us the first few months. Since
having our second child, many anxieties of parenting are not as present—perhaps from going
through it once before—but Dena was a huge part of this positive change.
Dena has given us our nights back when she was with us not only by being an additional
caregiver at night, but by helping with sleep training our infant. What was once a scattered and
somewhat random sleep schedule has turned into a relatively predictable nighttime routine.
For this, we are incredibly grateful to Dena.
Lastly, we trusted Dena completely with our new child, and we had no concerns with
her being in our home at night. She is very sweet with our daughter, and she truly is a “baby
expert”. We truly have no regrets or critiques when it comes to Dena. She is a caring,
trustworthy, and dependable person and childcare professional.
Sincerely,
Amy Schumer & Christopher Meserve

To Whom It May Concern:
It is with great pleasure that I recommend Dena Christensen Garcia as a night nurse and/or nanny. My husband’s boss had used Dena as a night nurse and nanny for his own set of twins. When I became pregnant with twins as a first-time mom, he provided me with her contact.
Dena started with our family as a night nurse when the twins were four weeks old. She was a life saver. With her help, we were able to get the twins consistently sleeping twelve hours by the time they were four months old. In addition to caring for the girls, Dena would also fold laundry and wash bottles. It was so wonderful to wake up after a good night’s sleep to those chores being completed, and it allowed me to rest more during the day.
Dena transitioned from our night nurse to our nanny once the twins started consistently sleeping through the night. Her years of experience and wealth of knowledge (from newborn care to breastfeeding/pumping) put us at ease. She continued to assist with household chores, which significantly reduced our mental loads and stress levels. She also stayed with the twins for several days at a time on multiple occasions so my husband and I could enjoy time alone.
Dena would always go above and beyond for our family, offering to do things I had not even considered (helping us find childcare when we were going on vacation with our twins, staying late and getting the twins ready so we could all leave timely for a flight, etc.). She clearly loves her occupation, and it shows in how she cares for the babies as well as the rest of the family!
Unfortunately, my husband accepted a job out of state, and we had to part ways with Dena. I have tried many times to convince her to move with us! We will miss her very much, but we wish her the very best and hope our paths cross again in the future.
Please feel free to text me if I can answer any questions you may have.
Sincerely,

Sylviane Harrison, CPA

Dear Doula,

Read. Absorb. Reflect.

Here’s the bottom line: If you’re about to go out with someone, and my friend dated them for a year, and they were physically abusive to my friend, you can bet your bottom dollar that I am going to tell you that.

I’m not going to remain silent.

I’m not going to wait for you to figure it out.

I’m not going to see if you know the right questions to ask to verify this information for yourself.

I am not going to wait until it happens to you.

I’m going to give you the information you need and then you can make your own decision.

It is the same fundamental ethical driver that requires doulas to be honest with birthing women and people about whether a provider is truly supportive of VBAC, abusive, etc.

If you are a doula, and you know there is a provider in your community who says they are supportive of VBAC but somehow every single one of their patients end up with a repeat cesarean, this is something your prospective client, who has hired this provider, needs to know.

If you know that a physician requires people to lay on their back for delivery, and your client wants to have freedom of movement, it is your obligation to share this information with them so they can make an informed decision about who attends the birth.

To remain silent, is to be complicit.

We have to speak the truth.

If we don’t look out for each other, who will?

Bring your integrity and join VBAC Facts® professional membership. It's the single best way to give your clients curious about or planning VBACs the best guidance and most accurate information: https://vbacfacts.com/membership (link in bio)

PS: Parents, please share your thoughts on this. Do you want your doula to be honest with you? How would you feel if they withheld this information?
