Something Black is coming to Madison. 🙌🏾

For 50 years, Rev. Dr. Alex Gee has served this community and believed it deserved a cultural home built by, for, and in honor of Black excellence. 🌟

During my twelve years at UT Austin, we recruited more than 70 nationally competitive faculty and helped build two Ph.D.-granting departments from the ground up.

That work represents some of the most meaningful of my thirty-year career in higher education.

So when I read recent reports that UT Austin may be closing or restructuring ethnic, gender, and area studies departments, I felt compelled to speak up. These units were built through sustained scholarship and careful governance — not political convenience. They should not be dismantled by shifting political pressures.

I've shared my perspective on the blog. I hope you'll read it and share it with others who care about academic freedom and the future of public higher education.

⚖️ A reflection on public service, independence, and what we're losing

Early in my career, I took a 50% pay cut for my dream job: Assistant Ohio Attorney General in the Civil Rights Section.

Attorney General Celebrezze told me my role was to serve and protect the people of Ohio. Later, Governor Voinovich reinforced that my job was to protect all of the people.

That consistency across party lines mattered. It reinforced that our institutions depend on fairness and independence—not partisan loyalty.

Today's recruitment challenges at DOJ concern me deeply. When talented lawyers question whether they can serve with integrity, we all lose.

🧭 In uncertain times, the question isn't whether to plan—it's how to plan differently.

Strategic planning has never been more important. But in our fast-changing world, it needs to be agile, adaptive, and built for resilience.

Learn how to turn volatility into opportunity with strategic foresight.

As we bring 2025 to an end, volatility seems to be our new normal. The past five years have been fraught with continuous change. Starting with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, we have faced social, political, economic, and technological upheavals. Disruptions are happening at faster and faster rates.....

The NIL era has evolved far beyond its experimental 2021 beginnings—and the stakes just got higher. 🏈 💰 📈

This year, college athletics entered the revenue-sharing era thanks to the House v. NCAA settlement, while more than 40 states opened the door for high school athletes to profit from their name, image, and likeness. The result? A $1.5+ billion collegiate NIL market and thousands of high schoolers signing their first brand deals.

But with opportunity comes complexity. Families are navigating tax implications, contract terms, and eligibility rules that vary by state. Student-athletes are balancing academics, athletics, and now business responsibilities. Schools and coaches are trying to provide guidance in uncharted territory.

The question isn't whether to engage with NIL—it's how to do it the right way. Dr. Gregory J. Vincent and Ludwig P. Gaines break down the opportunities, the risks, and what comes next in NIL 3.0.

By Dr. Gregory J. Vincent & Ludwig P. Gaines, J.D. Name, Image, and Likeness has officially entered its “new normal.” What started in 2021 as a wild, experimental marketplace is now a multi-billion-dollar ecosystem stretching from Power 4 football to local high school gyms. In 2025, two big shif...

🏈 BACK TO SCHOOL = BACK TO MAJOR NIL CHANGES 🏈

As students return to campus, the college athletics world is experiencing game-changing shifts:

🗓️ NEW: Single January Transfer Portal Window
Starting 2026, football transfers consolidated into just 10 days in January (bye-bye spring window!)

💰 NIL SURGE: $80 Million in Approved Deals
8,300+ NIL deals already approved this year, but some collectives report $11M+ stuck in approval limbo

⚖️ HISTORIC: $2.8 Billion Revenue-Sharing Settlement
Schools can now share up to $20.5M annually DIRECTLY with athletes

This isn't just about compliance anymore—it's about competitive advantage.

At St. John's, a $4M NIL investment helped build one of the nation's top transfer classes. Basketball programs now need $4-7M in NIL resources just to stay competitive.

For institutions ready to navigate this new era strategically, The 360 NIL Group provides the expertise, structure, and support needed to thrive.

This back-to-school season is the perfect time to reset and get ahead of 2026's changes.

🌟 ANNOUNCING: Ujima's "Celebrating the Past, Funding the Future" Campaign

For 10 years, Ujima has been the National Center on Violence Against Women in the Black Community, providing culturally specific services that mainstream organizations often miss. Now, with federal funding lost, we're turning to grassroots support.

Why This Matters:
- Black women are 2.5x more likely to be murdered by intimate partners
- 45.1% of Black women have experienced intimate partner violence
- When Black women are safe, their children thrive for generations

Dr. Gregory J. Vincent says: "As we mark 10 years of Ujima's excellent work, this campaign will sustain the work and strengthen our communities. We want to raise funding to ensure safety, healing, and thriving futures for generations to come."

How You Can Help:
🎯 Goal: $100,000 in 30 days | 1,000 supporters
💝 Donate: $20/month or $100 one-time
