The devastating floods that swept through the Texas Hill Country—and beyond—have left communities forever changed:
Kerrville. Hunt. Ingram. Center Point. Junction. Liberty Hill. Leander. Austin. Travis County. Williamson County. Burnet. Gillespie. Kendall.
It’s surreal to watch press conferences one after another—each county sharing heartbreaking updates, coordinating rescue efforts, and showing up for their neighbors. This wasn’t just one town’s tragedy. It’s been an unfolding regional emergency.
And in the midst of it, leaders have emerged. Not just elected officials—but everyday heroes. First responders. Search teams. Relief workers. Volunteers. Strangers helping strangers.
And mothers.
The moment we heard about Camp Mystic and the other camps along the river, our mama hearts began to race—and break—all at once.
There is a sacred, unspeakable terror unfolding for those mothers who still do not know if their children are dead or alive. And for so many, the knowing has come—and it is a knowing no mother should ever have to bear.
We hold them close in our hearts. We honor the ache, the waiting, the agony. We stand as witness to a love that can’t protect them now—and a loss too deep for words.
As a mother, I’ve felt my own heart tremble. Like so many of you, I’ve whispered that quiet prayer when sending my children out into the world:
Please, let them come home.
This moment has added levity to our everyday lives. We hold our children longer. We notice the sky. We remember what’s truly important.
And we ask: how can I help?
