✨I’m going live on Substack with Claire Venus .conscious, so if you’re feeling ready to wind down but not disappear this one’s for you.

✨Claire helps writers and creators build joyful, sustainable practices on Substack, and together we’ll talk about how to close your year with ease. Think scheduling posts (so you can actually rest), reflecting on what worked, and setting a gentle rhythm for the year ahead.

🎁 There’s no “push through the holidays” energy here, just practical ways to give yourself space and stay connected to your readers. Bring your notebook, your tea, and any questions about planning or scheduling your Substack posts.

I noticed I was holding my breath while reading someone else's brilliant newsletter.

📣That voice kicked in: "You should know how to write like that already."

🤷🏻‍♀️Your brain is not always your friend.

📧 This week's newsletter is about that harsh voice that shows up when you're learning something new—and how to actually quiet it.

Did you catch this talk with Patricia Marshall of when we broke down three paths to publishing your book?
📚
We covered what to expect with self-publishing DIY and Assisted (they're very different) Hybrid, and Traditional.
📖
And how much money each will cost. (Yes, a traditional advance -if you can get one-will cost you money. 💰)
📙
Patricia & I got real & broke it all down for you.

I'm going live on Substack this Thursday with Patricia Marshall () and if you've ever felt confused about publishing costs—this conversation is for you.

📚Patricia has been in publishing for over 15 years, and she sees the same confusion with first-time authors constantly.

Things like:
👉🏽Authors who've only had friends and family read their manuscript.

👉🏽Writers with a budget that doesn't quite match the services they need.

👉🏽People who think developmental editing and copy editing are the same thing. (Super common—they're not.)

💡Here's what I've learned from working with authors at the platform-building stage: nobody writes a great book completely alone.

👀 The right professional eyes on your work—at the right stages—makes all the difference.

✨Patricia and I are breaking down what you actually get at different price points ($3K vs $10K vs $40K), the different types of editing and why they matter, and how to choose the right publishing path for your goals.

Bring your questions—we'll dig into the differences between traditional, hybrid, and self-publishing, what each path actually costs, and help you get clarity around which one is right for your book.

Once a month I try to take a Monday off and go somewhere new in Austin... and just be.
📚Quiet time.

So this week I was finishing up 's memoir- I know I'm late to the game on this one, but I'm a big believer books find you at the right time...

🧡 And this one solidified that belief. I'm not going though a painful divorce, but I am processing such a painful family estrangement.

What I loved about this book is how she told her story. The short vignettes so intimate and beautifully written that touched my heart. Without being a "tell all."
🫶It was skilled craft with heart & soul.

Thank you for bringing that into the world Maggie. WOW.

“I had turned into a volunteer in my unintentional nonprofit business.”

That’s how Belinda Rosenblum described her second year as an entrepreneur.

She made $155,000 in revenue.
She took home $2,000.

“Everybody else was getting paid. I wasn’t.”

The problem wasn’t her clients or her work ethic.

It was the lack of a plan to pay herself.

I see this pattern with authors building their platforms too.
We obsess over subscriber counts, open rates, and follower numbers—metrics that look impressive but don’t necessarily translate to sustainable creative careers.

So I’m asking directly:
Regardless of how much your business makes…
Who here isn’t paying themselves properly?

💬 Something tells me we’re not alone in this.

⬇️ Watch the clip in stories — then check out the full talk:

Belinda and I dove into:
— The feast-or-famine cycle that traps creators
— Why QuickBooks isn’t enough
— How to price yourself with confidence
— What it takes to actually pay yourself

✍️ Here's the thing about building a creative business: Most of us are deeply uncomfortable talking about money and pricing our work.

🙄 We either undercharge out of fear or talk ourselves out of opportunities because we assume we're asking for too much. We don't know how to explain what we're offering or why it's valuable—so asking for money feels awkward instead of genuine.

🤷 I lived in this space for years. I knew how to build an audience and create content, but I had no idea what to offer people or how to price it confidently.

Working with Belinda Rosenblum of changed that. She helped me create my "Set Up Your Substack in 14 Days" offer, and more importantly, she taught me how to have a different relationship with money and cash flow.

🎤 Today, we're doing a Substack live to talk about it.

We're talking about the money stuff nobody teaches writers:

💰 How to get comfortable talking about money and pricing your work
💰 What to actually offer when you're building a business around your expertise
💰 How to stop undercharging before clients even push back

Tuesday, October 14th

3pm ET / 2pm CT

Super excited to be joining () Belinda Rosenblum's "More Revenue, In Less Time" panel tomorrow!

🎤I'll be talking about:

✨ How her Offer Intensive helped me create my "Set Up Your Substack in 14 Days" offer (which has been consistently selling for 8+ months)

✨ Why I used to avoid looking at my numbers (spoiler: it made everything worse)

✨ What changed when I finally got my books in order and started understanding cash flow

This is part of Belinda's free 4-day Rich Business Era series—and if you're a writer or solopreneur trying to build sustainable income, you'll want to catch this one.

October 15th at 1pm ET.

💰From $0 months to consistent clients — but my cash flow still sucked.

Last summer, I had a solid revenue month.

But then I checked my personal account and thought, “Wait... where did it go?”

🤷🏻‍♀️Turns out, making money and paying yourself consistently are two very different skills.

I worked with business coach Belinda Rosenblum () in her Offer Intensive and created my “Set Up Your Substack in 14 Days” offer — and it's been bringing in clients ever since.

But managing cash flow? That’s a whole other game.

This week, I’m taking her free 4-part masterclass: Your Rich Business Era (yes, a nod to T- Swift, and yes, I’m here for it 💸).

Here’s what she’s diving into:
💵 The money leaks draining your bank account

💵 Why you still undercharge (even when you know better)

💵 A system for consistent monthly income without more clients or hours

If you’re a writer, coach, or solopreneur building income from your expertise — this is the stuff we were never taught.

These FREE Live sessions are on Oct 9, 14, 16, and 20th.

I’ll be there taking notes. Want in?

📣 I’m going live again on Substack this Monday with Dana Miranda!

💵 We’re talking about her journey from journalism to publishing You Don’t Need a Budget—and how her newsletter Healthy Rich helped shape it all.

We’ll be talking about how her career evolved from finance journalism to writing You Don’t Need a Budget—a book that began with a viral essay for Anne Helen Petersen’s Substack Culture Study, called “*Budget Culture and the Dave Ramseyfication of Money,” led to both an agent and an editor reaching out to her separately. And she ended up working with both of them to write her book which was released by Little Brown and Company in December 2024.

We’ll get into how her newsletter, Healthy Rich, became a space to explore money through the lens of identity, class, and lived experience—and how that work helped shape both the book and the community she’s built around it.

🎙 LIVE CHAT: Dana Miranda on writing + money

📚 From journalist to author of You Don’t Need a Budget
