I started my career 36 years ago as a civil engineer in Venezuela’s energy sector. In 1991, I moved on to the oil and gas sector and made my way into Project Management. At the time, only a few women were in driven project management. As an entrepreneur, consultant, and investor, I have had the privilege of working closely with highly accomplished women in various roles such as subject matter experts, project managers, corporate board members, and senior executives. However, according to The State of Women in Project Management report by PMI in 2023, the ratio of male to female project managers is 3:1. We must endeavor to elevate our participation as project managers across all industries and ensure our involvement is comprehensive, efficient, and effective. This will require a concerted effort to develop and enhance our skills, expertise, and knowledge and a deep understanding of each industry’s unique challenges and opportunities.
