A little late on this…last week Women’s Trap Camp showed up in numbers to assist the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies with their annual Trapping Best Management Practices necropsy event. Many animals were processed to help identify if certain traps will pass tests to become BMP approved traps; selective, humane, practical, efficient, and safe. A lot of time goes into the prep work from AFWA, trappers, and the Wisconsin DNR. Veterinarians and professionals have plenty of work to complete after as well. We’re just happy to help near the tail end! Thanks everyone who came to help out!

Our last SHESide demo of the day commences with Jenna Malinowski out of Wisconsin. Where she will be sharing her methods of beaver trapping on Saturday July 25, 2026 at 1p-2p.

Jenna has spent the last decade serving as a wildlife biologist in northern Wisconsin and previously served as the Assistant Furbearer Specialist supporting Wisconsin’s statewide trapper education program. She began trapping 14 years ago while pursuing marten in Idaho and now focuses much of her time on wetland species and nuisance animal removal. Jenna is a strong advocate for increasing women’s confidence in the outdoors and teaching others how to hunt and trap for food. She helped develop and continues to coordinate Wisconsin Women’s Trap Camp and a women’s trap shooting league, while also serving as an instructor for the Wisconsin Women’s Waterfowl Academy.

Congrats to our favorite warden!!

Warden Meghan Jensen of the Mississippi River Warden Team is active in wetlands protection and waterway enforcement — and that is only part of the reason she was honored as the Wisconsin Conservation Congress Waterfowl Officer of the Year for 2025.

WTC coming to Pennsylvania August 14th-16th! Class at the Erie National Wildlife Refuge with camping at Meadeville Campground. Class begins at 10am Friday and tentatively goes until 2pm Sunday. $100/participant. Email Jenna at [email protected]. Limited spots available so don’t wait!

Camp is held mostly outdoors and includes hands-on experience with trap identification, wildlife tracking, trap setting and checking, skinning and fur handling, fur sewing and much more. Students will become certified in PA’s cable restraint training course and WI’s Trapper Education Course (optional but accepted in most states).

Bunk-style lodging is included with 4-6 people per cabin (2 primitive cabins, 2 with air conditioning and water). Participants who would prefer to camp may do so at their own expense. Registration also includes food, a PA Trappers Association membership, WTC t-shirt, a handmade fur product, and door prizes from our donors.
