Another project in the books at Peterson Space Force Base!

We’ve been hard at work at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, performing building enclosure testing at Space Base Delta 1.

This project gave us the opportunity to put our equipment, experience, and investigative skills to work on a federal facility.

Our testing included:

* ASTM E1105 – Water pe*******on testing of installed exterior windows and doors.
* ASTM E783 – Air leakage testing of installed exterior windows and doors.
* AAMA 501.2 – Field water leakage testing of installed storefronts, curtain walls, and sloped glazing systems.

From spraying windows to setting up specialized testing equipment, there’s a lot more that goes into building enclosure testing than most people realize.

These tests help evaluate how building components perform and provide valuable information about potential air and water intrusion.

As a small, family-owned Colorado business, we’re incredibly proud of the work we’re doing and the opportunities we’re being given.

And yes, sometimes we even get to enjoy some pretty incredible views along the way!

A pretty exciting day for Building Enclosure Forensics.

BEF is on site at Space Base Delta 1 performing building enclosure testing as part of our current contract.

Our scope includes ASTM E1105 water pe*******on testing, ASTM E783 air leakage testing, and AAMA 501.2 testing.

This is the kind of work we built BEF to do. Independent testing, careful investigation, and real data to help determine how the building enclosure is performing.

From residential investigations to commercial facilities and now work supporting the U.S. Space Force, the setting may change, but our approach doesn’t.

Investigate. Test. Document. Deliver the facts.

We’re incredibly proud to see where this little husband-and-wife company continues to go.

A leak doesn’t automatically mean you need a new roof.

Water around a window doesn’t automatically mean the window failed.

And moisture in a basement doesn’t automatically tell you where the water is getting in.

That’s the problem with building enclosure failures. What you can see is often only the symptom.

At Building Enclosure Forensics, we don’t show up with something to sell. We show up to investigate.

Colorado, the weather is coming. Is your building ready?

With a potentially historic storm season headed our way, now is the time to pay attention to your roof and building enclosure.

Heavy rain, hail, high winds, and rapid changes in weather can expose problems that may have been hidden for months or even years.

After the storm, don’t assume a wet ceiling means the roof directly above it failed. Water can enter through roofing, windows, walls, flashing, pe*******ons, or transitions and travel a significant distance before it ever becomes visible inside.

That’s where Building Enclosure Forensics comes in.

BEF doesn’t sell roofing, windows, siding, or repairs. We independently investigate water intrusion and building failures to determine where the problem is actually coming from and what needs to be addressed.

What you can see is only part of the story.

Water staining. Cracking. Discoloration. Failed sealants. Moisture around a window or door.

Those are the things that usually get someone’s attention.
But in building enclosure investigations, the visible damage is often just where the problem finally shows itself, not necessarily where it started.

That’s why BEF looks beyond the obvious.

We evaluate how the different components of the building enclosure interact, investigate the conditions surrounding the reported problem, and follow the evidence rather than starting with an assumption.

Roofs, walls, windows, doors, waterproofing and transitions all have to work together to manage water and protect the building.
When something goes wrong, finding the damage is the easy part.
Understanding why it’s happening is where the investigation begins.

What’s happening below grade?

Today’s investigation took us to Aspen, Colorado, for a home experiencing below-grade water intrusion.

Water showing up inside a home does not necessarily tell you where it started. With below-grade conditions, there can be several components involved, including foundation walls, waterproofing systems, drainage, site conditions, and the way water moves around the building.

That means sometimes finding the source requires getting into the places most people never see.

Today that meant reviewing the plans, evaluating conditions around the property, and getting into the crawlspace for a closer look at what was happening below the home.

At Building Enclosure Forensics, our job is not to guess at the cause or recommend a repair based only on where the water appears.

We investigate the building as a system, document the conditions, and follow the evidence to determine what is actually happening.

And sometimes the office view isn’t too bad either.
