If you have indoor plants or plant cuttings submerged in water, make sure to check the water for mosquito larvae weekly. Aedes aegypti mosquito lay their eggs on the walls of small water sources and having those little "ankle biters" indoors is no fun. Let's all keep the mosquitoes outdoors this summer!!

Before you go out this weekend, remember that mosquitoes are active and looking for a blood meal. You can prevent the bite by applying insect repellent. Have a Safe Weekend!!

West Nile virus will be active in local mosquitoes very soon. Remember to apply insect repellent before going outdoors, especially if you plan to be outside after sunset and for 2 hours after.

Water Features and Fountains with stagnant water need to be drained or treated with a product that will prevent mosquito production. Let's all do our part this summer to help reduce residential mosquito numbers.

If you plan to go outside this weekend after sunset, remember to APPLY INSECT REPELLENT. EPA-registered repellents with 25% or more active ingredients should prevent any bites from local mosquitoes, if you apply the product according to the label.

If you have permanent or semi-permanent water troughs, we recommend stocking mosquitofish in the troughs to help reduce mosquito problems on your property. You can go to kernmosquito.com and fill out a request for mosquitofish, or bring a bucket to our address at 4705 Allen Road, Bakersfield and we will be glad to supply you with mosquitofish for troughs, ponds or water features.

Report dead birds in Kern County, especially crows, ravens and scrub jays (aka: blue jays). Dead birds that have been dead for several days or months cannot be tested.
