If you saw our Veterans CareerBridge Fall cohort announcement earlier this week and were wondering what participation actually looks like, here is the short version.

Veterans CareerBridge is designed to help veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses, and eligible dependents become better prepared for their next career step.

The Fall cohort begins September 14 with virtual evening career readiness training. Participants then move into a flexible period focused on certification training, employer preparation, and continued career support.

Depending on individual goals and eligibility, participants may also have access to industry recognized certification options at no cost.

The purpose is to help participants strengthen their preparation, understand their options, and be better positioned to pursue opportunities that fit their experience and goals.

If you are a veteran, transitioning service member, military spouse, or eligible dependent in Bakersfield or Kern County who is working toward your next career step, Veterans CareerBridge provides a structured place to prepare.

The program includes virtual career readiness training, interview preparation, professional development, employer connections, and access to approved industry recognized certification opportunities at no cost to eligible participants.

Last week, we had the opportunity to recognize the second Veterans CareerBridge cohort as they completed Phase 1 of the program.

This graduation represented more than the completion of our live career readiness sessions. It reflected the time, effort, and commitment each participant brought to preparing for the next stage of their career journey.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this step. We are grateful for the community partners who continue to contribute their time, knowledge, and support to Veterans CareerBridge.

Most importantly, we want to recognize the veterans and families who make this program possible. Your participation, trust, and willingness to continue moving forward are at the center of this work.

A special thank you to the Wounded Heroes Fund for welcoming us into their space and hosting the graduation. Their continued service to veterans and families throughout Kern County made the evening especially meaningful.

Congratulations to Cohort 2 on completing Phase 1. We look forward to continuing the work together.

Considering a career in the construction trades, but unsure where to begin?

The Valley Build MC3 Apprenticeship Readiness Program provides a structured introduction to the industry before participants pursue apprenticeship opportunities.

Over 10 weeks, participants receive full-time instruction, hands-on experience, safety certifications, construction math training, career preparation, and opportunities to learn about multiple skilled trades.

This may be a good fit for veterans who:
• Prefer practical, hands-on work
• Want to explore several trades before choosing a direction
• Can commit to a full-time training schedule
• Are interested in preparing for apprenticeship opportunities

The program runs August 11 through October 15, 2026, in Kern County and is available at no cost to participants.

Veterans receive priority screening and support through TalentBase.
