Traction Alopecia is one of the biggest hair loss conditions. It can come from tight hairstyles such braids, sewins, ponytails, etc. Also, chemical processes like excessive color, glue-ins (quick weaves), relaxers can cause traction alopecia.

The best way to avoid further damage and to improve this condition is to try and minimize these styles. Allow your hair to breathe for at least a week in between hairstyles. Continue to moisturize your scalp and hair, if possible, while protective styles are in. Once or twice a week is enough to avoid clogging the hair pores/follicles.

Remember, as we know how much you love your hairstyles and the convenience of the protective styles, the longest you should leave a protective style in should be no longer than 4 to 6 weeks, taking it out sooner is fine. However, leaving hairstyles in longer than this may cause matting and further damage.
