I come from many years of anxiety, of expectations for myself I didn’t realize I borrowed from someone else, from masking into Type A, organized, on a schedule, from hiding being an artist, from one million snoozed alarms and late arrivals, from feeling piles of bees in my chest.

And I’ve arrived into some new kind of quiet. Or, not quiet, but a gentle hum so much more welcome than the flurry of panic, of abandoning myself, of trying to be what I thought I needed to be.

I worry every day as a small business owner, as a single person with a mortgage, as someone 39 and living alone, being so far from my goals…

…and every day I look around, astounded. I wake up with dogs on each side, in a bedroom the softest sweetest pink. I walk into my studio, my! Studio! to see the most wonderful friends and inspiring artists. I go for runs along the Baltimore Harbor, taken with the lights, with the water, with the steps of so many people calling this city home.

I’m so grateful. I’m so human. Thanks for being here with me. 💞

Wisdom from Dolly.

What an icon, a role model, an authentic human through it all.

As a self-employed person, I’m constantly debating if it’s time to jump out of the game or train harder. How long can my body sustain painting? How about my interest? Or my mortgage?

On the internet we’re all sparkly, but just like everyone else I will repeat: being self-employed is hard. Decision fatigue is constant. Certainty doesn’t exist.

But every time I doubt continuing, I take a deep breath and look around. Everything I’ve built. All the freedom I have. How proud I am, even if it’s not hitting the salary I walked away from. Everything is a process, and while cortisol comes with the territory, I can’t see myself living any other way. 💞

I generally don’t see myself as someone with haters… but I think that’s mostly because as soon as I hear them, I remove them from my consciousness.

Professors that tried to withhold my BFA and publicly criticized my work (and not in a productive way).
My mom, with the best of intentions, forever telling me to seek stability over risk.
Peers who clash with my belief system or way of operating.
Family that talks s**t about my choice to live in Baltimore.

And I’m never this aggressive in my presentation… but you know what? Maybe I could start. 💞

🍦CONE HEAD IS OPEN 🍨

After many weeks of painting, during which countless cars pulled over to ask “what’s this gonna be?” and “are you hiring?” Cone Head Ice Cream Co. opened TODAY!

Located in Timonium right off York Rd, this project was so fun, and so big! Stop by and you’ll see an entire drippy exterior, a fully muraled bathroom to match, a row of delicious ice cream cones, and a small interior and huge exterior logo.

I had such an amazing experience working with the owners, and keep your eyes open for a very special OKE ice cream experience happening soon…

Congrats, Cone Head Ice Cream Co! And thanks for letting me be part of the journey!

Ngl I hate this trend a little bit, but when I stopped to put it together it brought me so much joy.

The last year and a half have been filled with major transitions that are easy for me to overlook - a major break up entirely shifting my personal and home life, hiring Nancie Brown-Crisp gabby n oakes and Matt as consistent employees, starting Everything Studio with no blueprint and all gut feeling.

The last slide is the realest. Slowly, everyone in my life is the right person. Everyone makes me feel fully myself; everyone both embraces and pushes me; everyone makes me look forward to tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow.

What a life I get to live. Kinda chic, eh?

New this year is client thank you gifts. Opening a printify shop has really helped us control inventory and have super cute gifts. Together Nancie (the OKE project manager) and Caro (owner) created a tiered gift system based on the financial investment level of the project.

At the end of each project we send a client survey asking about what we did well and where we can improve… and then we ask for their mailing address. 😎

We order the gift, write a hand written thank you, and ship it off! This is our first gift being sent to Delaware!

My first night off in sooooo long, disgustingly long, and I walked in the house and didn’t know what to do with myself.

It conveniently, immediately, began to absolutely pour outside, thunder and lightning included. I lit a few candles, lit incense, and created a pile of my favorite things: dogs, pillows, books, and canvases.

I’ve been working on a personal project of mini canvases and love love LOVE having an opportunity to dip into the French Sign Painting Alphabet book I bought a few months ago. These letters are gorgeous, and so is the rain, and so is a few hours just me and the pups. 💞

I hope you’re finding rest even in the joy and heat and brightness of summer.
