Tiny ZZZ Sleep Consulting

Tiny ZZZ Sleep Consulting Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant, licensed counselor and mama to two young girls. Helping your l Hello! Check out the various services that I offer.

I’m Jessica Miller, a mom to a little one and, probably like many of you, someone who has struggled with figuring out how to get a child to sleep “like a baby”. After learning through my own trial and error experiences, talking to other mothers, pediatricians and others in the field, I started helping friends who were having trouble getting their kids to sleep. I soon realized it was my calling to

help and encourage others in the same boat. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Maryland. This is a person who counsels people by understanding their mental health needs and how to find coping and behavior management strategies to reach their greatest potential. I have a masters degree in School Counseling and a post masters in Clinical Community Counseling from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. I have worked at Kennedy Krieger Institute, Howard County Public Schools and outpatient mental health settings with children and parents for over 10 years. To use my skills in a transferable way, I studied and trained to become a certified sleep consultant. I LOVE working with people and have a passion for families with little ones. I believe that, like many things, sleep is a learned behavior and when given the right tools, time, space and guidance, little ones can learn to get the rest that they need; a lifelong skill! I also am a strong believer in individualization- what works for some people may not work for others. Because of that, I know the value of taking the time to listen and learn about all of my clients’ own personal stories and experiences as well as their parenting styles and beliefs. This enables us to work together to come up with a plan that everyone is comfortable with implementing. I recognize that sleep learning is not a one size fits all deal, and since babies and toddlers are human, they are constantly evolving. Therefore, we need to be mindful of things that may impact their sleep and adjust accordingly. I view the sleep consultant- parent relationship as a partnership where we will work together to reach the goals you would like to achieve regarding your child’s sleep needs. I look forward to hearing from you and hope we can soon work on getting more ZZZ’s for your tiny ones (and their mom’s and dad’s, too)! Feel free to call me for a FREE 15 minute phone consultation to discuss your family's sleep needs and find out more about how Tiny ZZZ Sleep Consulting can help you today!

How do you handle naps when not at home during nap time?

Some kids seem to sleep anywhere. I see them napping in strollers and on parents shoulders all the time. This works for some and while I encourage parents to be consistent yet flexible when necessary,
I am usually a stickler for naps in the crib unless traveling during nap time or other extenuating circumstances. However my family is on vacation and we decided to try a pool nap for our soon to be 2 year old instead of going back to the hotel room to snooze in the crib. After trying for one hour, even with back rubs from big sis, we decided to call in quits. She fell asleep in under a minute once I placed her in the crib. It was a good attempt but we won’t be trying it again. Crib naps for the win. 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️ 😴

The Rock-n-play should not be used for sleep. It is okay for supervised awake time only. I know it’s a favorite item for many families as it is portable, light weight and very comfortable for littles especially those with reflux. This article highlights why it is not safe for children 3 months and over due to 10 reported infant deaths. I personally do not recommend it for any sleep even before three months as it is not an approved sleeping location due to the incline and material.

Safe sleep locations include:
Crib
Bassinet
Pack and Play

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a warning about the safety of Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play products after reports of at least 10 infant deaths.

I say this to all of my clients.

Please, please please follow the safe sleep guidelines
(details in article, but if nothing else remember: ABC= Alone, Back, Crib)
This story could have ended a lot differently. No loveys, blankets, bumpers or anything else besides a properly fitting sheet in the crib until at least 12 months. No exceptions! Safe sleep is so important and babies CAN learn new ways to fall and stay asleep. Parents sometimes hesitate to tell me things for fear that I am “judging them” and say things like I know I shouldn’t do this but...” I’m not here to judge or shame anyone. Parenting and getting sleep as a new (or not so new!) parent is HARD. I’m here to help you develop new sleep habits that you can feel good about, and be reassured that you’re doing all you can to make sure your baby is sleeping in a safe way, based on the current research on this topic.

I have helped many families change from unsafe sleeping environments to safe ones. We as parents cannot control everything to keep our little ones safe, but it’s so important to be intentional about the things we do have control over.

Sara was not new to parenting. As a mother to three older children, she felt totally confident when her youngest child, Benjamin, was born. Benjamin was healthy in every sense of the word. He was developing properly, feeding regularly, pleasant and a great sleeper. Sara felt no need to worry; little

Who has a toddler or preschool aged child who has dropped his or her nap?! This can be a dreaded time for some parents and caregivers, but it doesn’t have to be!

🤫🤫QUIET TIME 🤫🤫can be amazing for families, you just have to start slow and stick with it!
What is quiet time exactly and how do you get your little ones to do it?!

Quiet time is a time for all family members to spend time independently resting/possibly sleeping or doing a quiet activity. Many toddlers go through an in between phase before dropping naps and still needing one. This is a great opportunity to begin quiet time.
So- use your nap routine if you have one, and explain that it is time for quiet time. This means you can play quietly in your room with xyz (books, stuffed animals, cars, blocks, dolls, crayon and coloring books if your child is able to do so independently, or other items of your choosing) or if you’re tired, you can lay down and rest! Remind your littles to listen to their bodies and if they feel tired, it’s okay to take a rest or nap.
Start short- 20-30 minutes, and build from there, depending on your child’s response.

It’s important for everyone (babies, toddlers, adults and everything in between) to have some down time each day. The amount of time varies based on schedule and other factors, but 1-2 hours is appropriate if your schedule will allow.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions on quiet time and how to implement!

Then after quiet time/naps, we play!!

Hi all! I’m currently reading this book ⬇️⬇️after hearing great things about it from many parents. Highly recommend!

I have shifted my work with parents on sleep a bit. I am focusing on the connection parents have with their child(ren) and as part of the conversations, we are discussing ways to build that connection as it relates to sleep and other behaviors around sleep.

I highly recommend this book and if you are having trouble with your 0-5 year olds sleep, please reach out! I’m offering an end of winter special🤗🤗🤗- 10% off any package for anyone who purchases before the first day of spring which is right around the corner on Weds, 3/20.
