Receiving a Form 1099-K from Venmo, PayPal, or Etsy is not cause for alarm. It is a reporting requirement, not a tax bill.

This form reflects gross payment volume. It does not account for business expenses, refunds, or non-taxable personal reimbursements. Reporting the gross amount as your taxable income is an avoidable financial error.

Precision is required to separate gross receipts from actual profit. Wyatt-Martin & Associates provides the necessary oversight for side hustlers and small business owners in the Greater Baltimore/Washington area.

Consultation fees: $50 for 30 minutes, $100 for 60 minutes.
Tax preparation: $125 - $850.

Legislative changes under the 'One Big Beautiful Bill' apply to all 2025 tax filings. Awareness of these five updates is mandatory for maximizing your refund:

4. EV Credits: New standards and credit amounts for electric vehicles are in effect.
5. New Vehicle Loan Interest: Interest paid on new vehicle loans is now a deductible expense.

Paying for daycare, babysitter so you can work, before and after care, or even summer camp? Don’t miss the 2025 Child & Dependent Care Credit.

To claim it, you need to keep:
1) Care provider info
- Provider name + address
- Tax ID (TIN/EIN) or SSN (if an individual)

2) Proof of what you paid
- Receipts/invoices
- Cancelled checks or bank/credit card records
- Dates of care + amount paid

3) Your qualifying child/dependent info
- Child’s full name + SSN

No provider tax ID = your credit can get denied. Get this info now, not in April.

Report ALL income. Every time.

If you received it, it belongs on the return:
• W-2s
• 1099-NEC/MISC
• 1099-INT/DIV
• 1099-K
• Cash income
• Side jobs/gig work

You cannot “pick and choose” which forms to file to get a higher refund. Leaving income off a tax return is fraud.

Reality check: the IRS gets copies of your W-2s and 1099s. Missing forms trigger income mismatches, IRS notices, audits, penalties, and interest.

Not sure what you’re missing? We’ll help you file it correctly.

Think you can deduct ALL your overtime pay in 2025? No.

The rule is “premium only.” That means only the extra amount you earn ABOVE your normal hourly rate may qualify for the overtime tax deduction. Your regular pay (even during overtime hours) does not.

Simple example:
• Regular rate: $20/hr
• Overtime rate: $30/hr
• Qualified “premium” portion: $10/hr

If you worked 10 overtime hours:
$10 premium x 10 hours = $100 potentially qualifying.
Not $30 x 10.

Keep your pay stubs and time records. This deduction will come down to documentation.

Want us to review your situation? 30 min consult: $50. 60 min: $100.

Not all tips are treated equally. Under new 2025 tax rules, "qualified tips" are the ones you report to your employer: they show up on your paycheck. Regular (unreported) tips don’t. Only qualified tips count for new deductions this year.

Confusing these categories means lost savings or risks of underreporting. Accurate records prevent headaches and keep your money intact.

If you make tip income: servers, stylists, daycare staff: avoid costly errors. Book a consult with Wyatt-Martin & Associates and make sure your returns are correct. Link in bio.
