Interested in learning about Harm Reduction and supporting the community at the same time? Here's an opportunity!

Grey Matters will be hosting "Introduction to Harm Reduction and Opioid Overdose Identification/Response", online on June 11th at 11 AM and June 17th at 2 PM. This event is a fundraiser and funds will be split between buying supplies for a local harm reduction program and Palestinian mutual aid.

This training is geared toward all levels of direct service providers (ex- etc.). Participants should anticipate an opportunity to reflect on how they engage with people who use drugs in their own practice in addition to feeling generally confident in their ability to identify and respond to an opioid overdose.

Attendance at these trainings will serve as a fundraiser ($2-$50/per person) to both buy supplies for a Baltimore-based harm reduction program and contribute to Palestinian mutual aid (50/50 split, which will be documented and shared on IG at the end of the month).

Hope to see you there!! Link to register is in bio 📝

In observance of 4/20, we are going to focus on 🌲 Cannabis In The Brain 🧠 this Thursday from 6:30-7:30 PM EST.

We will also have time to check in about our current substance relationships, engage in some mindfulness and touch base about any goals we may have for spring.

Hope to see you there! There are currently about ~6 spots open.

Hiya comrades 🌸. I took a hiatus from social media to slow down the go, go, go, scroll, scroll, scroll. I'm going to aim to keep the speed in slow 🐌 as we move through the spring.

That being said, I've had some wonderful opportunities over the last month to work alongside people who use drugs, teach (maybe also preach a little) to social work students about harm reduction, and reflectively engage with peers about how white supremacy culture shows up in de-escalation efforts.

I'm honored to have spent time with folks throughout March and excited to continue ~blooming~ into April.

If you or your organization want to talk about particularly as it intersects with or , let me know! I'm happy to schedule a consultation call with you to see if we would be a mutually good fit.

If you're still reading, comment ⤵️ or DM 💌 me with something that you're proud of from your month of March!

Tis the season for heavy drinking and pretending it's not a form of drug use 🎶fa la la la laaa la la la laa🎶

We can reduce harm when drinking by:

1. Eating first! 🥑 Fats take the longest to digest and will therefore line your stomach the longest. Alcohol can also deplete your immune system so focusing on nutrient dense foods can help in both the short and long run to reduce hangovers and attempt to avoid catching colds.

2. Getting in the habit of drinking a glass of water with every alcoholic drink will both help prevent the dehydration that comes with alcohol use and keep you so busy running to the restroom that you'll have less capacity to damage the liver. 💦 Win win!

3. Of all the possibilities of drug combinations, alcohol and benzos (think- xan@x) and alcohol and opioids are two of the most dangerous. Caution is also recommended for SSRIs, stimulants and c0caine.
Mixing with c@nnabis or caffeine is low risk/safe.

4. "I can still drive" is much easier to claim when your car is out front and you don't want to have to come back and get it. Deciding to leave your car at home and/or find alternative transportation ahead of time makes it easier to make safer choices once you're inhibited.

Cheers to a season of *safer* drug use! 🍻

For those who aren't looking to change their use (yesterday's post) but continue in a safer way, today is for you!

1. Change the water in water pipes as water can mold and mildew in less than 24 hours.

2. Holding smoke in your lungs doesn't make you more high, but it does cause lung damage.

3. This post is not sponsored by but they do offer a great tool to reduce harm for people who smoke.

If you want to learn more, the created numerous toolkits at getsensible.org that are informed by and geared towards folks aged 18-25, but can be useful for all ages!
