That Friday Feeling: 10 Tips to create it and keep it!
There's little greater evidence of how perspective can shape our experience, than the Sunday night blues.
Looked at another way, have you ever had off the remainder of the week on a Wednesday?
You'll know you get that Friday Feeling on a Wednesday. Obviously, the day doesn't matter in this case, only our perception of it. Being the last day of work before the weekend seems to be the trigger not the day of the week, right?
The secret is you can have that Friday Feeling on any day ending in Y. Truly!
Monday's aren't the awful, dread filled days we make them out to be. Typically the pain comes from knowing I have to "be" this person for the next week again before I can relax and repeat the cycle. It's as if we hold our breath all week long waiting to exhale on the weekends.
Back to my main point, if you want to avoid the Sunday night blues and Monday mopes and have that Friday Feeling all week long here are some tips to make it happen:
1. Vision your week on Sunday before going to bed
2. Give yourself something to look forward to Monday evening, after work.
3. Take time to rest silently and reflect 2 times per day for 15 minutes.
4. Incorporate music and social events during the week too, not just weekends.
5. Engage in exercise, ANY exercise that will elevate your heart rate between 60-80%, 3-5 times per week.
6. Make sure you're not in a bad job fit and ask yourself how does my life align with my values, passions and dreams.
7. Take steps to create greater balance and alignment in your life activities (ex. all work and no play...)
8. Get Creative - explore the arts or causes
9. Expect great things
10. Read - it's the great escape that teaches!
These ten tips will raise your energy and keep you flowing in that Friday Feeling. Remember to plan your rest and your fun, as well as your work and the work week will feel less like work and and more like pursuit of a greater purpose and passion.
Know anyone who gets the Sunday night blues? Share this article with them and maybe together we can replace the blues with "that Friday feeling"!
