Spyder Engineers, LLC was the structural engineer of record for this welcoming environment - Hygea Healthcare, a leading provider of addiction recovery services, combines traditional practices and holistic therapies to create the most successful programs for patients. They employ the strongest teams of addiction treatment and mental health professionals, including doctors, nurses, and peer support specialists. Their state-of-the-art facilities offer both residential and outpatient services, including detox and recovery aftercare.

The building features an entrance space that overlooks a two-story sitting area and activity rooms that accommodate traditional counseling, but also recreational therapy, yoga, meditation, and dietary guidance. This combination maximizes clients’ abilities to stay motivated, prepare for change, build recovery skills, and transition to lower levels of longer-term care.

We would be remiss if we didn't call attention to our President, Susanne Wassenius' BFF selfie with Maryland Governor Wes Moore during the groundbreaking ceremony!

Spyder Engineers, LLC had another successful and rewarding year in 2023. On the business side, we are continuing to add new clients to our portfolio and delightfully maintaining our relationships with the clients we have been working with since business inception. Our projects include 100,000+ sf 4-story wood structures, new steel structure buildings, and renovation projects ranging from public schools HVAC upgrades to hospital equipment upgrades. Our niche continues to be in the hospital sectors such as the University of Maryland Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Medstar, to name a few.

On the professional development side, our President, Susanne Wassenius, continues to stay active with the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) with a recently appointed position as a member of the Board of Governors (BOG). BOG is the committee that oversees and guides national SEI to strengthen the structural engineering profession. The structural engineering passion that stems from Mrs. Wassenius is reflected in the ethics and work performed by Spyder Engineers, LLC.

We are continuing to build our Spyder Engineers team. We are always looking for self-motivated and enthusiastic structural engineers to join this family! We look forward to an exciting year in 2024.

It is great to be part of the team as the structural engineer of record for the HVAC upgrade of Perry Hall High School. Seeing this massive chiller in place is a wonderful reward after design and redesign due to supply chain demands.

Spyder Engineers, LLC is currently working on an exciting project at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The project involves reconfiguring the existing loading dock and re-programing the 1st floor space. This project will be performed in 8 different phases. When this project is complete, it will increase the capacity of the loading dock and its associated management areas.

The University of Maryland Medical Center South Entrance is now open and Spyder Engineers, LLC was the structural engineer of record for this successful project! Structural elements included design for a new enclosed vestibule, new switchback handicap ramp and the widening of bridge and stairs. This project facilitates better flow of traffic and ease of handicap accessible access in and out of the hospital!

Spyder Engineers, LLC celebrated the holidays at the Engineers Society of Baltimore this past weekend. We had another successful year working with our (loyal) clients and have welcomed new clients through referrals. This year marks the 8th year that Spyder Engineers has been in business. As I look back at the start of business, stepping out of my stable full-time job to start this business with zero clients, it has been a wonderful and fulfilling journey. We now provide structural design services from smaller projects to multi-million-dollar construction projects; projects ranging from renovations to new constructions. I have had great family and friends, clients, colleagues, and even strangers to support me every step of the way in building Spyder Engineers. The business is built on trust and our attention to detail to clients' needs. Our clients include University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL), and various well-known A/E firms and MEP firms. Spyder Engineers continues to grow because of all of your support! We appreciate you!

As the new ASCE/SEI (American Society of Civil Engineers/Structural Engineers Institute) fiscal year begins in October 2021, Spyder Engineers, LLC is proud to announce that our president, Susanne Wassenius, is stepping into a new role in the ASCE/SEI Leadership Activity Division (LAD) as the Liaison for Graduate School Chapter (GSC). This new role will help relate the needs of the graduate student chapters around the United States and internationally back to the LAD to advance the structural engineering profession. In addition, Susanne Wassenius is an active member of the SEI Mentorship Committee, helping to build this new startup committee to provide mentorship specifically for SEI. Enhancing the structural engineering profession should be the goal of every structural engineer!
