Over the past two weeks, Sage Wellness Group, in partnership with Baltimore City Council, and Baltimore's Trauma-Informed Task Force had our kick-off event for the Providing Accessible, Trauma-Informed Healthcare (P.A.T.H.) Pilot Program!

Participants from Hopkins, Mt. Washington, Medstar, and University of Maryland hospitals began training, the first being facilitated by Dr. Lawrence Brown, author of The Black Butterfly, who spoke about the role of Baltimore's medical institutions in perpetuating trauma within Baltimore communities, and their responsibility to actively engage in healing.

This project is the first of it's kind, where several hospitals are coming together to discuss policy creation and culture shifts that embody trauma-responsive care

For nearly the past year, Sage Wellness Group has been conducting an organizational effectiveness audit in partnership with the State of Minnesota's Child Welfare Training Academy (MNCWTA). MNCWTA is responsible for providing effective training to social workers within the entire state, ensuring that they meet legislative requirements, and work to improve the lives of children and families.

Today, the Sage team presented audit findings and recommendations to staff. Capturing and analyzing hundreds of hours of listening session with internal and external stakeholders and reviewing documents is no small feat. Grateful to partner with the MNCWTA, who committed to a transparent process, ensuring that voices and experiences were heard, and will be included in next steps for sustained implementation.

My proudest moment during the session was when staff shared that they saw themselves reflected in the audit in ways that honored their experiences and expertise. Sage's main value is that we use a people-first, professionals-second approach, and we understand how that influences the ways staff show up in their roles and support their organizations in meeting goals. I am so blessed to lead a team that consistently proves that our values are integrated into everything we do and are experienced by the partnerships we're privileged to support.

After the murder of George Floyd, the state of Minnesota contacted Sage Wellness Group to hold processing sessions for employees within many of their state's departments. We were called upon again to hold space for state employees during the trial that followed.

Since that time, our partnership with the state has expanded, and I am excited to announce that Sage Wellness Group has been selected to partner with Minnesota's Child Welfare Training Academy, which formed through the merging of the University of Minnesota and Minnesota's Department of Human Services.

Although we are well-known for our trainings and workshops, we know that trainings themselves don't change systems. That is why, in addition to our trainings, we provide organizational audits to support organizational effectiveness, wellness and sustainability. Our audits are done still using trauma-informed, equitable, and restorative approaches that support organizations in moving from theory to lasting implementation.

Truly excited to begin this partnership... and looking forward to visiting Lake Minnetonka 😉

This project and partnership has been one of our most informative yet. Speaking and learning from advocates (lawyers, mitigation specialists, and organizational leaders) about their collective and individual experiences with complex trauma while they work to support their clients who are on death row has been such a profound learning experience.
Integrating trauma-informed practices that are sustainable is critical within this field, and we are proud that Sage Wellness Group has played a small part in using the voices and expertise of participants in this audit, and translating them into recommendations that acknowledge and holistically and systemically address trauma and its impact.
