Part 2 of 9. A client’s conversation with one my students had me fired up!
You ever had a low-paying client bully you into taking their project?
A bunch of demands and revisions, micromanaging and ghosting you when you need feedback or content.
They will get over on you, but only if you let them. It’s not with ill intent, they just may not know who you are. That’s why it’s so important to position yourself a certain way because your reputation dictates how you get treated.
On the flip side, you can’t be the designer trying to get over. The said reality is, a lot of designers are out here traumatizing clients with lack of communication and overall ex*****on.
If you want to call the shots and have control, you have to deliver. Point blank period.
But when you start to elevate your business (service, value, communication, etc.), you have to move a certain way.
Low paying clients (that give you the most headache) will start to realize you’re not on that frequency and won’t even approach you with foolishness.
High paying clients will start to realize you are on their frequency. It’s crazy how it works.
But you’ve gotta deliver at a high level at all times or you’ll find yourself back on a lower frequency because your prices and your level of service are out of alignment.
Once you realize that there are plenty of other designers and options for those low paying clients, it makes it easy to say no. They’ll be okay, I promise.
